Let me verify, when you added your actual care provider and the screen says "Since your employer provided dependent care benefits, we need to know how much you spent."- You should assign the funds from the employer to that provider.
Double check that you assigned the funds correctly.
If the money is FSA and not used, it would be taxable income with no 2441 on your return. I don't believe this is your issue.

A reason that you may not qualify for the credit is because you no longer have a tax liability after other credits are being applied. But just to be sure, follow these steps:
You should have received a document from the provider that gives their name, address, phone number, Employer Identification Number as well as the amount of money you paid for the dependent care. You'll need this information to complete this section.
Go to Deductions and Credits, then click Add/Edit for Dependent Care Credit
Click the pencil icon by the name of your dependent.
The next screen will allow you to enter the amount paid for your 10 year old's care.
Click through screens to get to "Your expenses for care providers" and click + Add provider. This is where you will enter the information of your provider.
Once you do that, TurboTax will let you know the amount of the credit, if you qualify. If you don't qualify, it would be because your tax liability was already at $0 after other credits had been applied. Some credits can be refunded to you without having a tax liability, but the dependent care credit is not one of those types of credits.

Sorry, Online is only for 2025 now. Online for 2024 and prior is closed now so you can not start a new 2024 or prior return or finish one. You have to do each year separately How to prepare a prior year return https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-prepare-a-prior-year-tax-return/00/25984 To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products You will need Windows 10 or Mac Ventura 13 to install it on. If you can't install the Desktop program or if you have a simple return and want to file for free, you can fill out the blank IRS forms by hand. Here are some basic forms….. Here is the IRS 2024 Form 1040 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2024.pdf OR if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2024.pdf And 2024 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2024.pdf Sch 1 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2024.pdf Sch 2 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2024.pdf Sch 3 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2024.pdf Then when you do file 2025 enter 0 for the 2024 AGI since you are filing 2024 late. You have to print and mail prior year returns. When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.

A couple reasons it could be saying you need to upgrade…. You might be seeing Form 8959 because the amount of Medicare taxes withheld in W2 box 6 is not exactly 1.45% of the Medicare wages in box 5, due to rounding. Try leaving the cents off of the Medicare tax on your W2 box 6. Box 6 has to be exactly 1.45% of box 5 or less. If it is saying you need Schedule 3 and can't use the Free Edition it might be giving you the retirement savings credit. You can say you are a student to decline the credit. You must answer Yes when asked in the Retirement Savings Contributions Credit section if your were a full-time student. The answer to this same question asked in the personal-information section is not the answer that is used.

Hello community! If I made roughly $35,700 in W-2 income last year and contributed roughly $28,000 of that into my company's Traditional 401k, can I still make max Roth IRA contributions for both my husband and me? Husband did not earn any income in 2025. ChatGPT makes it sound like I can still do this, but i'm trying to confirm. Thank you!

Your refund may have been offset. The IRS and state governments can intercept refunds to pay for certain past-due debts (such as back taxes, child support, or student loans).
How to check for an offset:
The IRS Hotline: Call (800) 304-3107 for automated details regarding tax offsets.
Official Notice: You will typically receive a letter in the mail explaining the specific debt and the amount withheld.
If you used "Pay with Refund":
If the IRS "Where’s My Refund" tool shows your funds were released but you haven't received them, please note that Intuit does not hold these funds. You will need to contact the Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (SBTPG) directly:

The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 03/04/2026
Forms and schedules availability website - https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product...
An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

Everyone's tax situation is different and the complexity of your tax situation, meaning the forms needed to file your return, determines if you qualify for the TurboTax Free Edition.
The TurboTax Free Edition is strictly limited to simple Form 1040 returns. If your return requires additional schedules to report specific types of income or to claim certain credits, the system will prompt you to upgrade to TurboTax Deluxe or higher.
Here are the most common reasons you would be required to upgrade to a paid version:
Unemployment Income: If you received a 1099-G for unemployment benefits, this is no longer covered under the Free Edition for the 2025 tax year.
Itemized Deductions: If you are claiming deductions for mortgage interest, property taxes, or large charitable contributions on Schedule A instead of taking the standard deduction.
Investment Income: Reporting stock sales, cryptocurrency transactions, or rental property income.
Self-Employment/Gig Work: If you have 1099-NEC or 1099-K income and need to deduct business expenses on Schedule C.
Education Credits: Claiming the American Opportunity Tax Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit (Form 8863).
To see if you have forms that are not included in the free edition:
Sign in to your TurboTax Online account.
Select Tax Tools from the left menu and then click Tools.
Click on View Tax Summary.
Look for Schedules 1, 2, or 3. If any of these are present (other than for the Student Loan Interest deduction or the EITC/Child Tax Credit), an upgrade is required.
If you want to start over to remove an accidental entry:
Select Tax Tools
Clear and Start Over
This will erase all data entered so far
Student Loan Interest (Form 1098-E) is technically an "Adjustment to Income" (an Above-the-Line deduction). While it is a common and simple form, TurboTax's commercial "Free Edition" is restricted to Form 1040 only with no additional schedules.
Even though you are taking the Standard Deduction, Student Loan Interest is reported on Schedule 1. As soon as the software detects a need for Schedule 1 (for student loans, unemployment, or self-employment), it triggers an upgrade to Deluxe.
As long as you haven't done the upgrade, you can go back to the question, "Did you pay student loan interest?", and say no, you will not need Schedule 1. The software won't prompt you to upgrade—but you will lose that deduction.
