Not sure how the NY forms work, but for MFJ NC taxes, the mixed state residency couples end up the NC NonResident/Part-Year resident forms.    So it might just appear that you are being considered a PY-NC resident . That transfers all your combined Federal income at first, BUT, during NC's income allocation pages, the NY resident  and the NC-NY spouse would take out their NY-related income, and only enter the NC PY-Spouse's 3 months of income in the appropriate boxes.   Yeah, it may take a couple weekends work to get it right, but if done right, line 13 of the NC Form D-400 should show a decimal multiplier which reduces the total combined gross income from everywhere (after allowed NC deductions), down to just the minor taxable portion of the 3-mo NC-spouse's part-year income. _________________ Very roughly speaking, that should end up with line 14 of the D-400, being just what's left of the NC-NY spouse's  NC-only income being subject to taxes by NC ________________________________

Form 1098-T is a form that your education institute will provide when you pay for education expenses. You can use this form to claim education credit but it will not impact your AGI. 529 plan is state education plan and any contribution to 529 plan is only deductible on state return, it will have no impact on federal return or AGI.    I am not aware of any specific education credit for NYC. NY state does offer credit for education if you qualify.  This goes on form IT-272.   https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/credits/college_tuition_credit.htm   For charitable donation, no deduction from NYC either but the state provides credit if you donate to certain funds.  This will be on form IT-228 https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/credits/contributions-to-certain-funds-credit.htm   There is also a credit for property tax from state of NY.  Form for this credit is IT-214.   https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/credits/real_property_tax_credit.htm   NYC offers something like assistance for first time home buyer but it is not related with your tax return. See below link to see what is the qualification and how to apply if you qualify.    https://access.nyc.gov/programs/homefirst-down-payment-assistance/#how-it-works   Thanks for participating in TurboTax's Ask the Expert event today. It depends. Most child support payments paid are not deductible. If they are, then the husband doesn't need to claim the children as dependants to enter the amount, he just needs to enter them on the Spousal and Child Support Payments Made page in the Deductions section.   If the husband made other payments or claims related to the children, like medical expenses or tuition transfer, then would need to claim the kids as dependants in order to enter that info.   If the father wants to claim the eligible dependant credit (line 30400), then usually it's not permitted to claim this amount if you are required to make child support payments for the child, unless they have an agreement with the other person that they are allowed to do so.

You are correct, I fell for the marketing ploy. Was having a slow moment. I needed help with accessing a live person or a refund bc I made a mistake. After some calls(and being on hold for 20-30 mins each time), I reached a nice lady who sent me to someone above her(although she would not give me the direct phone number). That person was able to start the refund process for me--says it could take a month to get my money back.    It should never be this hard. We can all do troubleshooting. We should have included access to speak to someone who knows more than the troubleshooting tips listed. Although, I have now reached refund status, I am disappointed that it was this complicated.   I appreciate your help

Please remove the personal information you posted here ASAP by returning to your post and clicking the three little blue dots on the upper right to edit your post.         No one in the user forum has access to your information.    We do not know if you paid your TurboTax fees.  Did you choose to pay your fees from your federal refund?   If you are asking about your income tax refund, TurboTax never gets any information from the IRS after you file your tax return, so no one at TT knows if the IRS issued your refund.     TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst

OK, so if the full depreciation for the vehicle was taken in the year purchased and the vehicle was sold for $29,000 (even though this was a loss in comparison to the purchase price) there would be 100% tax owed for the sales amount? Even though this was a personal asset and it was not owned by the business? Thanks for your reply.   Mudbug61

@cab2008    It's really not clear whether you are talking about the actual Desktop Tax "Software", or about just some of the data you might have in an Online account (if you have one) _____________________ That should work...BUT... Do Not download directly to the USB flashdrive/thumbdrive.  1)  Download the needed file(s) directly to the Win10 computer...into either a known directory, or onto the desktop. 2)  Then COPY the file(s) to the flashdrive. 3)  Then eject it and insert on the the W11 computer to copy wherever you want them. ______________ Maybe step # 1 isn't needed anymore...but in the past, there were lots of file corruption issues occurring with files downloaded directly to a flashdrive.

Are you new to having a small business?   There is no such thing as filing a quarterly tax return.   You might need to make a quarterly estimated payment---which you can do on the IRS payment site.  Your actual 2025 tax return  -- on Form 1040 -- will be prepared and filed once----the 2025 software becomes available in late November, and you will not actually file a 2025 return until 2026.    Your Form 1040 will combine all of your income including any W-2 income and your self-employment income.   You file a Form 1040 one time per year.   https://www.irs.gov/payments       Are you an independent contractor?   Are you a sole proprietor? Some information you will need if you are new to having a small business:   If you have self-employment income for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare,  you will need to use online Premium software or any version of the desktop software download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.     https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/self-employed/help/how-do-i-report-income-from-self-employment/00/26653   https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/self-employed/help/what-is-the-self-employment-tax/00/25922   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/enter-self-employment-business-expenses-like-home/L1k6HJY4A_US_en_US?uid=m6jrthmp     If you live in a state with a state income tax, you might need to make estimated payments to your state.   https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/small-business-taxes/the-home-office-deduction/L1RZyYxzv https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/estimated-taxes/make-estimated-tax-payments/L5svMESaC_US_en_US?uid=mdna5aoh     https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/calculators/self-employed/   https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/business-taxes/discussion/self-employed-don-t-miss-these-tax-moves/00/3400413     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/enter-schedule-c/L5Fz3j5us_US_en_US?uid=m6a6gknk   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/payroll-additions-deductions/qualify-qualified-business-income-deduction/L0rM2cIIQ_US_en_US?uid=m5zpoxad   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/self-employment-taxes/self-employed-expenses-deduct/L37ZS1B8T_US_en_US?uid=m6fntpg7
