Do you have the difference on line 38?   You can even have a penalty when you have a refund.   Or did it apply the difference to next year on line 36?

A W-4 is just a tool to get your employer to take the proper withholding.   In my opinion, as long as AT LEAST the proper withholding is taken, you can fill out the W-4 any way you want.  I think I would just do the line 4b method.   On the other hand, just leaving it as it is (NRA, and not changing anything else) would be fine too.  It would just mean that your employer withholds more tax, which means when you file your tax return, you will likely receive a refund because you are allowed the Standard Deduction.

Did you start the amended return with the original return?   Maybe you made some changes before you did the amended return.   Try starting over.   Delete the amended return and put your return back to the way it was when you filed.    Cancel or undo Amended return in the Desktop program https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/cancel-undo-amended-return-turbotax-cd-download/L7glUWakU_US_en_US   Or just start over again by opening the original .tax2024 file.  You should have saved it and made a copy before you amended so in case you needed to go back.

Thank you.  I will give that a try.    Regarding my last question, our RMDs and the rollover to Roth distributions were included on a single 1099 from Schwab; so the rollover was picked up in taxable income.  So we just need to file the 8606 which I believe I can do by just filing it with a 1040-X.

You will still get the refund from the first original return or still need to pay the first tax due.  In fact you should not even amend until the first return has fully processed and you get the first refund or your tax due payment has cleared.     Then the amended 1040X return is only for the difference you get back or owe.  I think the cover sheet shows what the original return WOULD have been if you did it right the first time.  Ignore the new 1040 that might print out.   Go by the actual 1040X.  Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 22 should be your additional refund.  If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16.  If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.

I filed the wrong W2 for 2024 by paper. Now i want to file a 1040X to amend my return with the correct 2024 W2. But when i went into my Desktop Turbotax to print out the 1040x the amounts have changed..   Instead of a 300$ refund it is now $422.   the differences appear to be due to changes  in the tax l;iability for 2024. But i did not amend my return otherwise....   Advice?

This is a message forum, not live chat. You have to post all the details of your question and wait for someone to post a response. What is your question? What do you need help with? What exactly do you mean by "a mistake in federal filling"? Did you make a mistake in the information that you entered in TurboTax, or do you think there's a mistake in TurboTax? What exactly is the mistake? Did you already file the federal tax return with the mistake?

First---you need to understand the difference between Social Security benefits and SSI----they are not the same thing.   When you ask about entering information on a tax return, we have to be clear about what kind of income you have.   If you have a SSA1099 -- that is for Social Security;  if you are getting "SSI" there is no document issued for that.  SSI is not entered anywhere on a tax return.   WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS AND SSI? https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/text-over-ussi.htm     If you have a W-2 from a job and a SSA1099 from Social Security, both must be entered on your tax return.   Go to Federal>Wages & Income to enter a W-2.    Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.

Thanks @AmeliesUncle  Since my W-4 shows NRA at step 4(c), I don't think the standard deduction is considered as it is not applicable to NRA. I will check with employer if they can modify withholding calculations to consider standard withholding with NRA status. They use ADP so I am not sure it can be done.   I had previously considered the other workaround of having $15K in step 4(b) but I was confused if it was correct because this $15K is kind of standard deduction and step 4(b) says "deductions apart from standard".

@mylikalanea You wrote: "who kileed leyonna andreea s dean dean"   We cannot tell what you are trying to ask about  -- unless you are trying to ask who claimed someone named Andrea Dean as a dependent.    If that is the issue -- we cannot find out, and the IRS will not tell you if someone was claimed as a dependent on another tax return, or who claimed them.      Please try again and make your question for us clearer so we will know how to help.
