The estimated payments are not based on what you owed but rather on your entire tax liability.
I sent you my tax info yesterday. I need to know that you got it OK and that it is still safe!             David Tomlinson You can reply  to: [email address removed] or [email address removed]

I left a company in 2024, and rolled over the 401k (held at Fidelity) to a Rollover IRA (held at Fidelity) and was issued a 2024 1099-R. I filed my 2024 tax return and received a refund. Several weeks later, I receive a letter from Fidelity that there were excess matching contributions that should have been forfeited to the Plan rather than distributed to me (i.e. Fidelity 401k should not have distributed those funds to me and Fidelity 401k made a mistake).    Fidelity 401k then issued two corrected 2024 1099-Rs in my 401k account: 1) Corrected 2024 1099-R $8,060.10 with distibution code G (Direct rollover of a distribution to a qualified plan, a seection 403(b) plan, a government section 457(b) plan, or an IRA).  2) Corrected 2024 1099-R $1,174.94 with distribution code E (Distributions under Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS)).   Since the 401k had been rolled over to a Fidelity Rollover IRA, I requested the excess contributions from the Fidelity Rollover IRA. Fidelity recalculated the distributions and instead of distributing $1,174.94 per the corrected 2024 1099-R issued in the 401k account, they distributed $1,245.64 from my personal IRA. They have stated that the  $1,245.64 distribution will be reported on IRS Form 1099-R, which will be mailed to me  January 2026.   I need to file an amended tax return for 2024, and would appreciate guidance on how to do so. Do I need to wait until I get the 2025 1099-R from Fidelity in January 2026 to file the amended tax return for 2024? The excess contributions in 2024 were withdrawn before the 4/15/2025 deadline, so will I need to file a Form 5329 (Additional Taxes on Qualified Plans (Including IRAs) and Other Tax-Favored Accounts)?   How do I file an amended tax return for 2024, without waiting for the 1099-R from Fidelity in January 2026? I do not know what tax codes they will use in the distribution code. Because Fidelity distributed a different amount ($1,245.64) from my Rollover IRA instead of the amount per the Fidelity 401k  2024 1099-R of $1,174.94, will there be any issues?    I am trying to file an amended tax return due to the issues that the Fidelity 401k team caused when they inaccurately distributed the matching contributions that should have been forfeited to the Plan, causing this excess contribution issues. Thank you for the help!

I updated TurboTax 2024 successfuly on 20250401 and re-filed .  I got rejected the 4th time and Turbotax now said I have to wait until April 4 2025 to re-submit.  In the meantime, I noted that my under-payment penalty has increased $97 in spite I tried to file since 20250301.   I already paid all the required tax by 20250114 and the under-payment penalty has increased because of the filing date keep on being delayed by the Turbotax Program.

How do I send a diagnostic copy of my return?   The "Income Summary" has the wrong tabulation for the interest on 1099-INT.  Turbo Tax is placing the wrong info for Department of the Treasury on the Schedule B, which is inflating our total interest income for 2024.

I have used TT business and after entering all my income and stock gains, TT is showing 1200$ under payment penalty but I did applied last year's (2023) refund to this year(2024) tax as estimated tax. Because I had refund from last year , I didn't make any additional estimated tax payments on those 4 dates. Due to stock gains my income increased so AL included more income than 2023 which is valid but I am not sure why was I charged penalty of 1200? how it was calculated? Is there a worksheet that shows the under penalty calculation? some more details - last year refund of 7K applied to 2024 tax. Last year, TT didn't give me any estimated tax that I need to pay for this year - 2024. Thanks for help.

My income from Jan-Sept is in W-2 and Oct-Dec is in 1042-S. It's the same employer.  W-2 is straightforward, and I have reported the 1042-S on less common income/miscellaneous income/other reportable income and indicated the amounts withheld under Deductions and Credits/Estimated Tax Payments/Other income taxes/Withholding taxes not reported in W-2, as instructed by Turbo Tax customer service.    Just need a confirmation to know it's correct.

1. You need to send a 8606, but you do not have to amend your return- it can be mailed separately.  You can go back to your 2023 TurboTax return and add the nondeductible contribution, then print and mail just the 8606.    2.  You missed an entry.  It was either the "Tell us if you moved the money through a rollover or conversion" or "Any Nondeductible Contributions to your IRA?" for prior years nondeductible contributions after you enter the second 1099-R. (Most likely the Nondeductible questions.)
