Hi experts, I and family (spouse and child) just move in the U.S at the end of Dec-2024. We had GC on that day. During tax year 2024, I and spouse just have income from outside U.S (not from U.S companies and source of U.S) plus a portion of K-1. My concerns are: 1. Should I and my spouse be treated as residency alien for the full tax year 2024 ? If YES, what's kind of income sources have to be filed? just K-1 or everything world wide ? 2. If filing as dual-status, what's kind of income sources have to be filed in which forms? 3. How can I file tax credit for amount tax paid from foreign income? during the time of nonresident of the year 2024 Thank a lot for your advises

When I go back into 2023 and amend the return, I enter the 1099 R and am putting the box 1 gross distribution, 2a taxable amount and box 7 has J & P. When I enter "P" it comes up and says Return taxable in "2022". When I am amending do I just not enter the letter P? This is solely for 2023.

Leave all columns A-C on the Sept - Dec lines completely blank; delete any zeros there. You should only have entries in columns A-C on lines Jan - Aug.
For any month you have an amount in column A, you have to have a positive amount in column B, and any amount (including $0) in column C. If there is no amount (or $0) in column A, leave all columns blank for that line.

That does explain it. You didn't previously mention that you had split the rollover between two destinations, so I had assumed that you did not since just rolling over the $6.37 to the Roth IRA (along with the other $90.88 of pre-tax funds that you rolled over to the Roth IRA) would have been far simpler without any significant tax consequence. To accommodated TurboTax's limitations on dealing with a code-G From 1099-R that reports rollovers to the two different types of IRAs, you must split the Form 1099-R into two for entry into TurboTax. The one for the rollover to the Roth IRA will have $8,316.77 in box 1, $90.88 in box 2a and $8,225.89 in box 5. The one for the rollover to the traditional IRA will have $6.37 in box 1, $0 in box 2a and a blank box 5.

I would recommend that you try to get your W2 form from your employer. This way you would have the complete form and use the transcript as a final resort.

If I finish my return and want to see what I entered again, or add another K-1 , I have to answer the same questions to get to the same spot. Sometimes I made a guess choice to get toe the next step. I would like to see a cookie trail to let me know which button that I clicked on. This is not really what you wanted, but it might help you to return to specific areas. I assume you are using desktop TurboTax. If it's the version for Windows, at the top TurboTax menu bar you can click on Tools, then in the dropdown menu select Topic List. That shows shortcuts to various topics in the program. There's probably something similar in the Mac version, but I don't know the steps for Mac.

Certain deductions, like state and local taxes, aren't allowed for AMT calculation purposes.

Hello Catina, Nothing worked including what you recommended. I have printed out the forms to send it to the IRS since I cannot file electronically. Annoying to say the least
