When will the IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) Form 1099-R section be available?
I sold my car in 2024. It was a loss. How do I fix this?
The plan is not required to mail the 1099-R until January 31, and if you are expecting mail instead of electronic delivery it could take a while longer to arrive.

If the child lives with you more than half the year, you need to select "7 months" or more in the dependent interview.  Turbotax interprets "6 months" as exactly half, and it needs to be more than half.   If the child physically lives with you less than half the nights of the year, the child does not automatically qualify as a dependent, no matter what the local court said.  To claim a child who does not live with you more than half the year, you need a signed release from the parent where the child does live more than half the year.

I believe the Desktop Business program on Windows is the same as the personal Home & Buisness version.  You can do them 2 ways, either Online using QEF Quick Employer Forms or on your Desktop.  If you pick Create forms on Desktop  you can only print and mail them.      And you can only install the Business program on a Windows Desktop computer.  There is no online version unless  you use the Online Live Service version .  The Online Business versions are a lot more expensive. The Online Business is $739 for Live Assisted Business and $1,749 for Live Full Service Business.

Yes, a deduction that New Jersey allows for Self-Employed Health Insurance would fit into the 'other state adjustments' category on New York Form IT-112, Line 17.   Because the credit is calculated on an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) basis, New York allows you to subtract certain expenses from your gross income in Column B to match how the other state actually taxed you.   These are the "above-the-line" deductions found on your federal return (Schedule 1, Part II) that relate directly to the income earned in the other state.    Examples include:   Business Expenses: Deductible expenses for a business, trade, or profession carried on in the other state (e.g., if you are a sole proprietor or have a side business there). Health Savings Account (HSA) Deductions: The portion of the deduction attributable to your work in the other state. Self-Employment Tax/Health Insurance: If you are self-employed in the other state, the deductible portion of your self-employment tax or health insurance premiums related to that income.   You can find more detailed info in Instructions for New York Form 112-R.   @J9999

If you are stating that you believe that the IRS adjusted your interest deduction correctly then pay any amount due and that will end the matter.   If you are stating that you used the correct loan limit of $750,000 on the original return then you should contact the IRS at the address on your CP28A notice and tell them that you feel the calculation is correct.  Be sure to indicate the mortgage origination date as well as a copy of the 1098 that you originally received.   @ankkna

A 1098-T reports tuition paid by you (or on your behalf) to a college or university that you are attending.  That 1098-T may result in a higher refund for you because of education credits or may result in a taxable amount if your partner received scholarships or grants.  Either way you should definitely enter the numbers from the 1098-T into your tax return to see what it does.   Log in to your TurboTax account and click on the amend return button for your 2024 return and go to the education expenses section.  There you can enter the numbers from your 1098-T.  If you find that it has changed your return then you can file the amended return with TurboTax at that point.   @lawren_lutrin

The application was waiting on some forms from the IRS to be ready. I received an email from TurboTax saying that was done a couple of days ago.   The pending statues is not an issue for me. I do not mind it pending for acceptance. I've used TurboTax for years now and this has never been an issue. I want to be done as the application states I can move forward and I'm stuck in a loop.  I think as though how I've gotten to know TurboTax. If that was the case. I would be told to wait before sending it in.    I don't like that their employees have to come out to say just wait it out. Y'all guys are the best help you can be and I appreciate it. I didn't have this issue last year and I filed very early in the season but while researching the issue. I see we're 2 years in with this issue.    I would love to see it resolved because I love the service or possibly it would be good to know the reason behind this glitch that I guess we're playing off as part of the process.   I'll give it more time. Again TurboTax customer service is GREAT. The services are normally easy and fantastic.  I hope this put together of information can be of use in some way. I appreciate there being a space I can release this energy.           Thank you for your time and understanding.
When IRS forms are in "Draft" by IRS, then they are not available to efile in Turbo Tax.  When IRS approves 8959, then program will update and allow for the efile that includes form..

You can use the TaxCaster to estimate the effects of the withdrawal. https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/calculators/taxcaster/   If your only other income is SSI, it is tax-free.  Once you start to have other taxable income, not only is that income taxable, but there is also the possibility that part of your SSI will also be taxed.  Since it's a complicated formula and something of a moving target, some kind of software tool is going to give you the best estimate.   If you are under age 59-1/2 and NOT permanently and totally disabled, then there will be an extra 10% penalty on the IRA withdrawal, on top of the regular income tax.  If you are over 59-1/2, or you are under that age but disabled, there is no additional penalty.

I understand that if it adds up then it is the same and actually an attempt to pay taxes correctly. I have the same situation that TT Premier 2025 isn't handling correctly at all. The clergy interview is absent. Any information on updates coming? When?   Thanks, Dre If you are in a situation where you were a regular employee for part of the year (with regular withholding of social security and medicare tax) and a clergy employee of the same organization (with no withholding of social security and medicare), turbotax can't prepare a correct return automatically.  The only way to get Turbotax to work is to split your W-2 into two--one for regular employee and one for clergy employee. This is the routine way to do it.  I don't know if it increases your risk of audit, it's just the only way it works.  The IRS is mainly going to be concerned that your box 1 and box 2 numbers add up.   I have not checked to see if the housing allowance question is enabled yet, there's no reason it wouldn't be since it hasn't changed from last year.  When entering the clergy W-2, there should be a page listing special circumstances -- check the box for religious wages.  (Do not check this box for the W-2 that covers wages you were paid as a lay person.)

If the tax is deductible, you can enter it under Deductions and Credits, then Cars & Other Things You Own, and finally, Personal Property Taxes.   Generally, excise taxes can't be deducted on your personal return.   Business related excise taxes are generally deductible on a business return.     However, some states and localities erroneously label excise taxes as personal property taxes, which may be deductible.   For example, some states refer to certain vehicle registration fees as an excise tax.   Excise taxes imposed on personal property (vehicles, campers, boats, RVs, etc.) are an allowable deduction if two conditions are met: The excise tax is determined by the property's value, usually a set percentage. The excise tax is imposed annually. Can I deduct an Excise Tax?

Hello,   I am trying to amend my 2024 tax return because I received a K-1 after my original filing. In BOX 20 I have three codes: AJ, N, and Z. I figured out how to input codes AJ and Z through browsing previous posts on this forum but I don't feel very certain about code N: should I input an negative number like one of the AJ codes (when representing expenses), or should I just input the number as is which is a positive number?   Thanks in advance.
