I have the same issue with the Mac desktop app. When I try to continue, the application crashes. Check This Entry Form 8959: _ This form has not been approved for release at this time. You must obtain an update before you file your return in order to ensure that all of the calculations are correct. To receive an update, select Check for Updates from the Online menu to connect to our web site.

Yes, I am getting this error as well. I called the customer service 800 number and spent 45 minutes and got nowhere. Hopefully posting this will get a resolution. I am using 2025 TurboTax Premiere Desktop for Windows version which is fully up to date (no new updates available when I check). When I get to the point in the step-by-step where I am ready to file, it does the error check and I get the following error for Form 8959: "Form 8959: _ This form has not been approved for release at this time. You must obtain an update before you file your return in order to ensure that all the calculations are correct. To receive an update, select Check for Updates from the Online menu to connect to our web site." If I go into the Forms view, Form 8959 is showing as "NOT DONE" with a red exclamation point (!) for Windows. The form is filled out and there is nothing flagging as incomplete or required on the form (no boxes or lines highlighted in light red). There is also no error message showing. And, the Intuit forms availability web page indicates the form is ready, but there is obviously something wrong with Form 8959. Please, I need help with resolving this!

Did you already transmit your return? (The IRS is not open for e-filing but Turbotax might allow early filing.) If you already transmitted your return, do nothing for now. Wait until the IRS processes your return and pays the refund. Then, file an amended return to add your child and claim the additional amount. Amending won't be available until the end of February, takes 16 weeks for the IRS to process, and you can't file the amended return until the first refund is paid.
If you did not transmit your return, then you can correct any information that you need to correct, before transmitting.

Do you speak for TurboTax or are you just an opinionated individual? I came to express my disappointment about a useful feature being removed from a product I have used for many years. Am I not allowed to express my disappointment? You can argue doggedly that It's Deductible was not a feature within TurboTax, and based on my own experience, I can disagree with you. And, I was not asking for your permission to go elsewhere.

good advice, I will switch to HR Block
Sunday
It was the only program that allowed you to download your contributions directly into Turbotax without rekeying them individually. It was, therefore, part of Turbotax.

My union contract pays us overtime after 7 hours in one day. The most straight-time we ever have on one check is 35 hours. From what I understand, the no tax on overtime rule applies to the premium time on hours worked PAST 40 hours, and not simply every OT hour on the paycheck. Also, there are weeks when I get paid hazard pay (which is all overtime), so it appears my whole week was overtime on my paystub. Obviously, this isn't part of the tax plan. But a little clarification would be great. Thanks!

No one in this user forum -- or at TurboTax for that matter -- can check with the IRS for you. We cannot check to see if you filed, nor can we check to get any information abut your refund. You have to check for yourself. You can check to see if the IRS shows a transcript of a 2023 or 2024 return that you filed, and/or check your IRS online account for information shown there.

@Uselessknowledge18 You have not asked a question here. Do you have a question? If you are receiving some sort of disability income, it may or may not be taxable, depending on what kind of disability income it is, and on whether you have any other kinds of income in addition to the disability. Being "disabled" is not itself an exemption from having to file a tax return. And if you have even $400 of self-employment income, you are required to file a return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare. If, just for an example, you get Social Security disability but also work as a Door Dash delivery driver you are required to file if you made even $400 in the year.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

Social Security Retirement/Disability/Survivors benefits are reported on a form SSA-1099 and the benefits received are to be entered on a federal tax return. The benefits may be taxable depending on the amount of other income you have entered on your tax return.
However, if the Social Security benefits is the Only income to be reported on the tax return and there is no federal income taxes being withheld, then there is no reason or need to file a tax return.
Unless you also received a Form 1095-A for your health insurance through one of the State Marketplace Exchanges or from healthcare.gov then you must file a tax return.
To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business) Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business) Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown) Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button
Or enter ssa-1099 in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ssa-1099

My ex gets 10% of my military pension per divorce decree. It also states she is responsible for all taxes associated to it. It is less than $500 a month so no automated payments from DFAS, I physically write her a check each month for her share. So, I get paid, then I pay her. How do I subtract those payments on my taxes? That way it is deducted from me paying taxes on it and the IRS knows it went to her and she must pay the taxes. Last year I was told to subtract it under the Misc Income section, just add a "minus" sign before the total yearly amount and add in the comments her name, SSN, and why. Is that still the case? Seems like an off way of handling it.

For calculating my 4th quarter estimated tax using TurboTax Deluxe desktop, I temporarily entered all of my 1099-R taxable amount as interest income to have TurboTax calculate my total Federal tax for 2025. This amount agreed with my manual calculation. So I now know what my final Federal taxes are. I live in Colorado where some 1099-R income is excluded from state income taxes. Not having these1099-R entries is still causing my state income tax to still calculate high.

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return. There was a government shutdown during the time the IRS has had your amended return, so you might just be experiencing an extra delay.
