Did you request to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund?

A. Yes
Q. I don't need to enter the 1099-Q on either mine or hers? And if I follow the above, I should be all set?
A. Yes and yes. Verify that it shows up on line 8z of Schedule 1.
One other after thought: It's unclear, to me, what the $1000 room & board (R&B) scholarship is and why isn't it included in box 5 of the 1098-T. Although it was issued for R&B, is it restricted to R&B? Technically a scholarship restricted to R&B would be taxable income to the student (R&B is not a qualified expense for tax free scholarship). But, if it can be used for tuition, then deducting $17K instead of $16K is correct.
In other words, if you're sure there was actually $17K of scholarship, and not the $16K shown in box 5 of the 1098-T, then use the original calculation of $1691 as the taxable amount of the 529 distribution, rather than $1186.

Thank you so much for sharing this tip! I was so frustrated as I kept getting the 105 error every time I tried to import my Merrill forms. I finally got it to work by unchecking the BofA accounts. YAY!

I have spent days trying to educate myself enough to answer this question. It was after entering a 1099-R in which I moved money from an IRA into a Roth IRA. The question asking if I had any already taxed money in my IRA is a very confusing question as I didn’t even know that was possible. The question is worded in a very unlike TurboTax simple everyday language and more like professional tax preparer language. And my next complaint is that even when you say no to this question, you cannot bypass the next question wanting your IRA balance. It’s none of turbo tax’s business! I’m not RMD age and had dig through on-line statements for this value, as I didn’t think it was needed for my tax filing.

Yes, you can confirm the last digits of the account that you used for your TurboTax refund deposit. You can review your tax return using the steps listed below to find your tax return. You can find the deposit information on your Filing Instructions for your Form 1040, in the first section of the form labeled Balance Due/Refund. Your account number and routing number are listed there.
If you are using TurboTax Online you can:
Go to "Tax Tools" found under Tax Home in the left panel of your TurboTax screen; and then
Click on "Print Center"
Select return type (1040)
Select Print, save or preview this year's return, then
Select to include federal/state returns and worksheets.
If your return has already been filed:
Click on Add a State (you won't actually add one) to re-enter the return and access the Print Center
If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can:
Switch to Forms Mode by clicking the "Forms" icon in the top right of your TurboTax screen.
In the left panel, scroll down and
Click on Filing Inst page 1 and 2.
If you have additional information or questions regarding this, please return to Community and we would be glad to help.

@vickyniki A phone number is not required to file a tax return. TurboTax only requires this so just enter any phone number with a valid area code, such as (202) 222-2222

Form 5695 or 1099-R? The two forms are not related.
If you are having trouble with 5695, there is a known issue.
The IRS has issued a correction to the 2025 Instructions on their end. We are looking into it to see if this is related to the IRS correction or if it is something else.
We have corrected the calculation for joint occupants of a home who are claiming the energy efficient home improvement credit in Part II of the 2025 Form 5669. Please refer to the instructions below with respect to the joint occupancy section on page 3 of the 2025 Instructions for Form 5695. If you downloaded or printed the 2025 Instructions for Form 5695 prior to Jan. 26, 2026, please note the correction.
Although, the IRS is saying March 6, if this is the date that they will have the forms corrected, TurboTax software will take a little bit to then make the changes. You can attempt to refile on the 6th or wait for several days after that.

They do not need to verify your identity with the phone number. They just want your phone number to have access to other things. This is so wrong. I already paid for the service, and now I can't not even print out the Tax Returns to mail it if I don't give a phone number. Somebody needs to do something about it. they keep trying to trick you into things. I love Turbo Tax because give me explanations of things. This makes me feel I am doing the correct steps to file my taxes. But the way they are going by this is so unethical and unprofessional. I tried "Tax Slayer" 2 years ago, and came back because I don't understand some of the things. This is making me consider use them again for next year. You know what. If I can call my credit card and cancel the transaction I am going to Tax Slayer right now to file my taxes. I am not going to wait until next year. They shouldn't force us to give us the phone number. They already checked our identity with the Wages amount from last year W-2.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
