If you changed your permanent address, you are a part-year resident in each state, and you need to file a part-year resident return. Generally speaking, state A will charge income tax on income that was paid while you were living in state A, and state B will charge tax on income paid while living in state B. If your SS benefit is your only income after you moved to state B, you probably don't have to file a return in state B. But you might want to file to establish your change of residency, or there might be other benefits to filing even if you don't owe.
Also note that when preparing your state A return, your income will flow from the federal return which lists all your income. You will have to manually tell turbotax how much of your total income should be assigned to state A.

I'm reading all the posts. I understand I must amend my 2022 tax return and I must mail the amended return. Yet, I'm still unclear if I will be able to use the TT software to properly complete the amended return. And which specific steps in forms do I need to use? I would also appreciate knowing if anyone has successfully used TT to amend 2002 AND has received their IRS refund.

Where do I enter a 1099-R?

It says I’ll get my refund advance within 30 minutes once the IRS accepts my return. How long does it take for them to accept my return?

Hi there, I started a buisness this year and had almost $7k worth of business start up cost. I still am finishing products for launch, and due to that had no income in 2025. I know I need to file my taxes. I got divorced in 2025 as well as have 3 young kids. I had no other sources of income. Would i recieve any refund for the expenses I incurred starting the business expecially since I did not have any income? I am lost and my ex is helping me navigate though he isn't entirely sure. We are unsure who would make more sense filing the kids under. This is a whole new advanture I have no idea how to navigate. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes. Being reported in Box 14 will not transfer it to the proper spot on the return nor on the W-2 worksheet as there is currently not a code for the OT deduction, so you will need to enter the information in additional situations. When you select Overtime for one of these less common situations AFTER filling out the W-2, it will be entered on Part XI of the W-2 Worksheet and then flow to line 14A of Schedule 1-A which will then go on line 13b of your form 1040. Remember when you are entering the OT, you can only enter the amount that is paid in addition to your regular rate. For example, if you make $30 per hour and your OT is $45, you can only deduct $15 per hour of OT, not the portion that is considered your regular rate. Some additional facts are below regarding the deductibility of OT. For 2025 through 2028, qualified employees may deduct $12,500 of their OT from their income.
To qualify the following must apply:
You must be a non-exempt employee eligible for Overtime under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act
The Overtime must be on hours worked OVER 40 hours. (if you live in a state where OT pay is required after 8 hours, this does not apply)
Overtime must be paid at more than your regular hourly rate.
Your filing status cannot be Married Filing Separately
Your income must be less than $150,000 if you are single or $300,000 if Married Filing Jointly.

There is a situation in which TurboTax legitimately asks for information on the prior year (2024 in your case), This is when you used the last-month rule in the prior year (i.e. 2024), yet failed to maintain HDHP coverage for the entire current year (i.e. 2025). If this is your situation, then TurboTax needs to know what kind of HDHP coverage you had in 2024 as well as what HSA contributions you made in 2024.
However, it is not at all clear that this is your situation.
1. Are you using the Online TurboTax product or the desktop version?
2. Can you tell us the question(s) TurboTax is asking about 2024 (a screenshot attached here would be nice if possible)?
P.S. Don't worry about references to form 5498. You are not actually asked any questions about this form.
