Thanks VolvoGirl for letting me know that purchasing the 2021 Dektop edition will be futile at this point. I'm in the correct account. It has my returns back to 2020 (prepared using TurboTax Online).   The issue is that TurboTax doesn't include worksheets when accessing prior year returns. The desktop software is one workaround to be able to access those prior year worksheets.   It's an unfortunate aspect of the online offering that should be corrected, or at least made more clear when one competes their taxes. The current messaging that reads "We keep returns for up to 7 years"  should probably clarify that if one wants worksheets, they should archive them now.

I count on TT to carry forward last year's numbers onto this year's return. For the 2025 Premier version, it is asking for Nondeductible Expenses from Prior Years.  How on earth do I know?? That's why I use TT!   There are absolutely no instructions on this page. If I open the relevant form, there is a Carryover Worksheet.  There is a 2024 Operating Loss.  There is a Passive Disallowed Loss.  I do not know what they are (well, generally I understand my losses were limited by income etc)  but... there is nothing on the worksheets that show a "nondeductible loss."   Where do I get this information and what exactly is it asking me?   Thanks.     I have a vacation rental (mixed personal and rental.)

Even though you live in Portugal and pay Portuguese tax on your U.S. Social Security, the IRS still blocks the foreign tax credit. The US/Portugal Tax Treaty gives the U.S. the Right to Tax U.S. Social Security. The U.S. pays into Social Security therefore, the U.S. gets to tax it even if you live in Portugal. Portugal can also tax it, but the treaty says Portugal must give the tax credit, not the U.S.   The Foreign Tax Credit can only be given if it's Social Security paid by Portugal. This gives Portugal the right to tax its own Social Security benefits thus the US must give the tax credit under the terms of the treaty.

Yes, you are answering the questions correctly. It isn't required to be reported like it is wages, but it is taxable income on your federal return. 'No' on the screen 'Did the '____' involve work that's like your main job?' 'No' on the screen 'Did the '____'  involve an intent to earn money?' California "proactive pay"—commonly referring to California wait time penalties (labor code violations for late final wages)—is reported on Form 1099-MISC (Box 3, Other Income) because the IRS determined these penalties are not considered wages or compensation for services. Consequently, they are exempt from federal withholding, Social Security/Medicare (FICA), and unemployment (FUTA) taxes, making W-2 reporting inappropriate   California taxes wait time penalty (labor code § 203) as taxable income, although it is not considered "wages" for payroll tax purposes.

For foreign pension income in TurboTax, if you can't provide a US Payer's Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) because your pension payer is from a foreign country, you can usually enter a foreign TIN if you have one. TurboTax allows entering a foreign Taxpayer Identification Number in place of a US TIN for foreign pension income reporting or tax treaty claims. If you don’t have a foreign TIN either, you may leave the Payer's TIN field blank or enter zeros as a placeholder, based on the software guidance. TurboTax typically prompts for additional information when a foreign payer is involved. Ensure you select or indicate that this is foreign pension income in the relevant section to help TurboTax apply the correct reporting rules.

When you click in the left column tab for Deductions & Credits, it may take you to a page called "Your Tax Breaks. Lower on that same screen should be a button or link for "Add more tax breaks" or "Show more tax breaks" or similar wording. When clicked, then the screen should expand, and all the deduction topics are displayed including "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid." Then that topic can be expanded further to get the subtopic Estimated Tax Payments.
I volunteered for the National Park Service June - Aug. 2025. I traveled from Washington State to Arizona. I was not paid a stipend nor did I have any out of pocket expenses reimbursed to me.

You should see a section called Rental Properties and Royalties in the Premiere edition of TurboTax. It is in the Wages and income area.
If you already filed somewhere else then this one should reject, unless you mailed the first return.  If this one gets Accepted you can not cancel it.  You will have to amend it if it went though.
