I already received my federal return, but not State. When I downloaded the document, I found out that there is a different routing bank number and a different bank account; mine is not there. On searching for that routing number, it belongs to Cross River Bank. TurboTax fees already deducted from my federal bank . I checked for my state return but information not found. Aliaa

After your Form 1099-R is entered into TurboTax you should see a screen that says, "Where is your distribution from?" You should select the top one, 'Retirement Distribution from U.S. Government." When you do this, your distribution will flow to your Kansas State Income Tax Return and be recognized as excluded. Public pension income, including that from federal, state, or local governments, is fully exempt from Kansas income tax To get to those screens in TurboTax to review your entries, you can: Click on Search at the top right of your TurboTax screen Type Form 1099-R in the search box Click on the link Jump to Form 1099-R Select your Form 1099-R for your Federal pension and follow through the screens until you see "Where is your distribution from?" The return seems in order, based on the information you input, but it's not correct. Your beginning inventory must match last year's ending inventory. The IRS expects your 2025 starting inventory to be $0. You should file an amended 2024 tax return (1040-X) to correct the error.
Don't forget to also include the expenses incurred throughout the year (Beginning Inventory + Purchases - Ending Inventory = COGS)

AmyC, Your instruction steps produces a Explanation Statement in Forms Mode, but attempting to produce a printed copy of all tax forms for mailing does NOT include the Waiver Explanation Statement. It also does NOT correctly enter "RC" and the amount of the shortfall that you want to have the IRS waive in parentheses on the dotted line next to line(s) 54a and/or 54b per the 2025 IRS Instructions for Form 5329. Currently, the only solution seems to be to create a text file with the necessary Waiver Explanation, include it with all of the forms for mailing and manually add the (RC <amount>) entry to Form 5329 with a pen.

To change your status from single to widowed, do the following:
Go to My Info on the right hand panel in your TurboTax account
Click the down arrow to the right of your name and click on Revisit, then Continue until you reach, About your household
In the About your household section, you will be asked about your marital status and Widowed will be the last option
You will then be asked about the year of death
Filing as a qualifying widow(er) allows surviving spouses with dependent children to use the Married filing jointly tax rates and highest standard deduction for up to two (2) years after their spouse's death.
Read more by clicking on this IRS tutorial link here.
TurboTax may be asking you for your spouse's information on your retirement Form 1099-R because your information may not be up to date, or to determine whether it belongs to you or your spouse.
You can indicate that the Form 1099-R belongs to you. In future years, you will no longer be asked about your spouse and your marital status will change automatically.

Hey @SteamTrain thanks for the reply. No stocks or cap gains. My Schedule 1 exists because of independent contractor work with a home office, and one 1099-NEC. I reviewed the linked page and ran down the list of the covered items under Deluxe, and I have none of the K schedules from the first section. However, the second section seems to say Schedule C is only partially covered. My filing also generates an 8829 form which is only checked for the premium online. I do enter some business expenses for utilities and such as well. If the indication is that deluxe online won't allow any self-employment at all, then I guess that's where I'm running into the issue. Seems odd that what is allowed/covered between the desktop and online versions would not be consistent though...

Alabama does not tax Social Security benefits which were taxable on the Federal 1040 income tax return. The computation is made automatically within the Alabama income tax return software.
In TurboTax, in the Alabama income tax return, the screen Federal Income Not Taxed by Alabama states:
If you reported income on your Federal return that is not taxed by Alabama and not reported elsewhere on your Alabama return, enter it below.
Such entries are reported on the Alabama Information Worksheet under Part V and are not reflected in the computations on the Alabama income tax return.

For Virginia, a resident and a nonresident cannot typically file a joint state return. Because your wife is a VA resident and you are a resident of North Carolina, you are required by Virginia law to file separate state returns, even if you file a joint federal return. To do this with TurboTax, you must create a "mock" federal separate return to use in preparing the Virginia separate return. See How do I prepare a joint federal return and separate state returns?
North Carolina does not have the same requirement, so you can file a joint state return even though you do not have the same residency.
NOTE: Under the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018 (Public Law 115-407) spouses of service members can elect to use the same state of residence as the service member for taxes. If you make this election, you would be able to file a joint North Carolina tax return with both of you as residents and report all the income to North Carolina.
If you choose this, instead of filing a nonresident Virginia tax return, you can complete a 763-S to request the Virginia withholding and you would want to complete a new VA-4 to request that Virginia taxes not be withheld from her wages. You would also want to make quarterly estimated taxes to North Carolina for her so you do not owe and/or have a penalty for North Carolina underpayment of estimated taxes.

After you verify your identity on the phone with TurboTax (TT), the return usually gets transmitted right away or after a few minutes. However, actual timing can vary based on system processing and verification completion. If there are no issues, you should be able to transmit the return right after verification is confirmed.

I'm trying to claim this credit for a home charger installation, but it won't let me proceed if I answer No to the following question: "Was the refueling property placed in service in an eligible census tract in 2025?" My understanding that this should only apply to a commercial property, not a home. Is anyone aware of a workaround?

No, terminating employment isn't an exception to the early withdrawal penalty. If it was unexpected, it could possibly be considered an emergency. The IRS defines “emergency personal expense" as an unforeseeable or immediate financial need relating to necessary personal or family emergency expenses. (Section 115 of the Secure 2.0 Act)
An emergency will allow you to make a withdrawal, still subject to tax, but without the 10% early withdrawal penalty. You can take one financial withdrawal emergency per year, not to exceed $1,000.
