To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954.
Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities. There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.
TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US
Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.
FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE:

How it works
Where's My Refund shows your refund status:
Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

1, On your withdrawal form, you should ask for Excess contribution Refund.
2. You need to withdraw the excess plus any related earnings. Your HSA custodian can calculate the earnings and add them to the amount withdrawn.
3. You need to file form 5329 for 2024 and 2025. For 2024, you need to amend your return to add that form and pay the excise tax.
4. You need to amend your 2024 tax return.
5. On your 2025 tax return, file form 5329 and pay the excise of 6% as the excess was still there as of December 2025. In 2026, you will receive a form 1099-SA reporting the withdrawal of the excess.

I bought a home in 2021 due to the separation from my wife. We reconciled and I rented out that home from November 2022 to November 2024. It was empty from November 2024 until I sold it in February 2025. Where do I report this sale? Can I add the capital improvements I made to house before I rented it (deck, roof) into the basis of the house?

The boxes were blank. I asked what to put in the box for the star blank 16 because the software would not allow it. At first they connected me to a tech that clearly didn’t know what she was talking about. The tax expert didn’t really understand either and after a lot of discussion told me to fill in the blank with the federal number. I did not feel confident at all in their response. They were polite but obviously were not confidently answering and I feel a promoting this as tax expert advice was wildly overstated.

The Schedule HBC (First Time and Second Chance Home Buyer Savings Account) is generated because a "Yes" was accidentally selected (or a $0 was entered in a field that should have been left completely blank).. Since we can't see your return, you can try one of these options below (in order of "severity). Option 1: Open or continue your return. Under Alabama State tab, Click on the Income or Adjustments section. Look for First Time Second Chance Homebuyer Accounts, and Select YES (even though it's not true). If there are any $0 or numbers (next screen), delete (boxes should be empty), and Click Continue. Now, click the "Back" button (or revisit that section) and Select NO. Continue through the screens until the end. Option 2: Open or continue your return. Click on Tax Tools (left menu), and Click on Tools, and then Click on Delete a form. Find Schedule HBC and delete it. Immediately Sign Out of TurboTax (do not just close the tab). Clear your browser cache/cookies. Sign back in and run the Review again. TurboTax FAQ: How to clear your cache. TurboTax FAQ: How do I delete cookies? Desktop/Download Version: Open or continue your return. Click on Forms Mode (top right). Find Schedule HBC (left-hand column). Click Delete Form (bottom). Switch back to Step-by-Step mode, and re-run the Review. Option 3: Open or continue your return. Under State Taxes tab, find the option to Delete State (delete the entire Alabama return). Wait 30 seconds, then click "Add State" to start Alabama over. Your Federal return is already done, so the state return will pull that data back in automatically (make sure that you Select "No" on the Homebuyer Savings Account screen).. Please let us know if this doesn't work, and we can explore other options.

See that TurboTax is aware of this issue in early February. Two months later and it is not resolved. Unacceptable. Should be an easy fix but apparently NOT.

It is up to you to calculate the credit available for the current year, to include any carryover credit available from previous years. You enter the credit on the screen in TurboTax in the Missouri state tax section that says Choose the Credit. You will notice there is a learn more link on that page you can click on to read about each available credit, which includes a reference to where you can find information to calculate the credit. If you have a carryover of unused credit that you are entitled to in the current year, you would include that amount in your entry of the credit available for the current year. My review of Form MO-TC indicates that you include the carryover credit amount with the current year credit.

You say you paid your tax due by entering a credit card. Did you pay your TurboTax fees? Did you e-file?
DID YOU E-FILE?
Did you e-file? Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted or rejected your federal e-file. If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.
Check your e-file status:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
What does it say in your account? Does it show that the return was accepted? Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”
