I am working on my state taxes on the desktop version of TurboTax and it will not allow me to apply Military Spouse Residency Relief Act benefits on my return. We have lived together outside of Missouri in Europe due to military service for the entire year and received zero income from Missouri for the entire year. What do I need to do to apply the MSRRA benefits for my spouse?

After doing the Smart Check on Turbotax Desktop for my federal taxes, I get this message:   "Check This Entry Form 1099-MISC Worksheet (_________________): A link to Schedule C, Schedule F, Form 4835, or the Other Income Statement must be entered. To associate this amount with the proper tax form double-click on the field provided or check the box for the form you want to link this amount to."   The blank is the name that I put for the check that I received from a legal settlement.   I had followed the instructions on this page (Where do I enter an award from a taxable legal settlement?), so I am confused on why I am getting this message and how to resolve it.   Any help would be apprecaited, thanks!

He has to file it regardless if he getting refund or not, correct?    You mentioned that he has to do DC non residence first before submitting MD taxes. Does he need any documents to go with it?   When can he send his MD taxes? Does he has to wait for his DC taxes get ccepted or no?   On W2 form in box 15 or 16, it said MD. Need to file DC non residence anyway?

When I attempt to e-file my federal and state returns - i get this error message. I have checked for updates - and it says software is current.  I've turned off norton/vpn/virus - no change.     I have run SmartCheck - and everything is good.       If you cant efile - turbotax is kind of useless.

Yes, you should add the numbers to the payor's name.   @ubose1
Yes, you will be able to electronically file and then mail the 8453 and the document within three business days in the filing date of your return.   @andyoak

It depends. Missouri law explicitly states that your state standard deduction should match your federal standard deduction. If you claimed a Net Qualified Disaster Loss (which increases your federal standard deduction via Form 4684), Missouri honors that increase. However, the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) has a very specific rule for this:   To claim an increased standard deduction due to a disaster loss, you must file a paper return.  TurboTax "knows" this rule. If the software sees that your standard deduction is higher than the Missouri base amount (e.g., higher than $15,750 for Single or $31,500 for Married Filing Jointly for 2025) because of a disaster loss, it will often disable e-filing to prevent the state from automatically rejecting your return. Missouri requires physical documentation to verify disaster-related increases to the standard deduction. When you claim this, you generally have to:   Write "net qualified disaster loss increase" on the dotted line of your MO-1040.  Attach a copy of your Federal Form 4684 and Federal Schedule A. Manual “write-ins” and certain attachments aren’t always supported by standard e-filing, so the software requires a paper filing to keep you in line with state rules.
Thanks for the reply!    I did not include the expense in medical expenses, as I assumed it would not count since I got reimbursed.
