You report all of your winnings. If you itemize you deduct your documented losses but no more than what you won.

"... a much smaller amount than I am being made to pay." Doubtful. Trust income-tax rates are generally higher than individual tax rates unless the amount of income is quite small. For 2024, trusts reach the 37% tax bracket at $15,200 of taxable income. Also, to be taxable to the trust, the income has to be retained by the trust. If the income is distributed to you, you end up paying the tax anyway, passed through on Schedule K-1 (Form 1041), and the trust takes a deduction for distributable net income to remove it from the trust's taxable income.

I need to make adjustments (downward) to the amount of mortgage interest that is deductible. It will not result in itemizing for federal.

I will be switching to a competing tax preparation software product instead (H&R). Have you seen any evidence anywhere that 2025 HRB is planning to install on Windows 10?

There has not been a stimulus approved for 2024 or 2025. There were only 3 stimulus checks for 2020 and 2021.

TT doesn't clear a problem I fixed when it did a review. How do I make TT realize I did exactly what it said to do so I can do an efile? Or should I ask this separately? Or do you want more detail? You can try asking in this same thread, but so far we only know you are trying to fix "something." You need to describe the issue in enough detail that people can understand what you're trying to do. And then, someone familiar with the issue can comment if they see this thread.

When you are ready to file you can try to switch to efile. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/e-file/help/how-do-i-change-from-mail-to-e-file-in-turbotax-online/00/26985

I use the standard deduction for my federal return, but my state (California) still pulled in Schedule A because I itemize state deductions. So it's a bit odd that my state return includes a federal form that is not part of my federal return, but it seems that is ok. Now I need to amend my state return because I need to make a Schedule A correction. Because I am correcting Schedule A, TurboTax wants to file amended returns for both. Is there a way to shut that down so it only worries about the amended state return? I'm thinking perhaps just deleting the Form 1040-X might do that.
