I've run into a really odd issue. I am itemizing my deductions for my federal tax return. However, when I fill out my Maryland tax return Turbotax defaults to the standard deduction and does not let me select the itemized deduction. Any ideas what is going on? I have TurboTax Premier for PC. Thanks.

I don’t have a problem! I am posting my comment about the hundreds of other comments regarding the extension verbiage that TurboTax is using on the last page which is misleading and incorrect. I’m informing the community that I went through with the filing regardless of the misleading verbiage because TurboTax promised that it would not file my return, and I was showing the community then, in fact it worked when I pressed the button

Ohio Tax. Section- State Review Military Retirement and Civil Service Pension Income   As a Fed Civil Serv Retiree, I do not get credit (pay less) for military service. I am not a military retiree. In the formula, if I go from 0 years of military service to 4 years of military service, my refund goes down (less).

When a net operating loss (NOL) is initially entered or carried over, TurboTax will incorporate that into the current tax return.  It will also know if any of the NOL was used on your tax return.  What TurboTax will not do is to calculate an NOL.   The NOL must still be calculated and entered/edited in TurboTax each year. Use the  IRS Publication 536 to access the worksheets.     Here's info on How to Amend a Prior Year Return.   @C_Nagy
The PIN changes each year. Log into your IRS account and double check the PIN on your account matches what you are entering. View your account information

While I understand that is an option, my questions are:   1. Why does the turbotax interview not mention or offer that as an option?, and   2. Upon entering things correctly, why does turbotax still end up with additional taxes when there should not be any?

W2 Import functionality DOES NOT WORK for "Quick Employer Forms" online Turbotax Business. Same error uploading ".tax2024" business form:   "Failed to import data from tax file. Error occurred while parsing the data from tax file." I have had unresolved problems with externally created W2s using TurboTax Business for a few years now.   We Need another product for small businesses, as this one is not worth the money, hassle, and additional State filing fees and time .

Hi,   I'm on my third e-File rejection!   I receive this in an email: IND-180-01 - The Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) you entered for the primary taxpayer doesn't match IRS records.   I checked my IRS issued PIN and it is correct, however I keep having my return rejected. Is there something I'm missing in TurboTax?   Thanks!

@C_Nagy wrote: Unfortunately, TurboTax includes an NOL deduction with out limiting it to 80%.  I did not understand that I needed to calculate how much of the NOL deduction I could include, so I entered the entire amount.  Yeah, unfortunately, you would never know not to do that unless you clicked on the little blue, "learn more", link that leads to the Guidance, which states:   The Program will determine your current year Net Operating Loss (NOL) and this amount will flow automatically to the Federal Carryover Worksheet. HOWEVER THE PROGRAM DOES NOT SUPPORT THE CALCULATION OF NOL CARRYOVERS. THIS INCLUDES THE 80% LIMITATION PURSUANT TO THE TAX CUTS AND JOBS ACT.   Obviously, statements such as those SHOULD be displayed much more prominently to give proper notice to users.

You do need to assign the correct mileage to each vehicle. When you eventually dispose of the vehicles, you will need to calculate the depreciation applicable to the vehicle based on the business miles driven in order to determine the gain or loss on it's sale or abandonment. That gain or loss will be taxable or deductible by the business.

Yes.  It still applies.  Even though you are now retired, it is still an insurance plan through your employer that is from the benefits you gained while being an active employee.  Employer includes previous employers.  The IRS in pub 502 does not make a distinction between former employee and employee.     The plan is still through the employer, it is not an independent plan.

Totally agree. It appears that in most cases, the estimated tax payment amounts should be carefully reviewed before using. It appears that depending on how you enter the 2026 information may get you the correct total amount of estimated taxes due or not needed.   As to getting Turbotax's attention on this issue, my recollection is that in prior years TurboTax representatives would at least monitor this community blog and at times would comment or even suggest that there was an update in process to remedy an issue. It is disappointing that they don't react and even more disappointing that they changed the estimated tax payment process that worked perfectly in the past.
I'm not sure how that helps a mac user like myself. Why is it omitted in the mac version? That's the real question.
