Are you on Windows or Mac?  Did it save your existing return ok?  How are you trying to start a new return?  Go  up to File-New Tax return.  Have you updated the program?  Did you try reinstalling the program?   If you can’t update your Windows program try doing a Manually update https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/updating/help/manually-update-turbotax-for-windows-software-basic-deluxe-premier-home-business/00/26041 Troubleshooting the Windows updating issues https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/troubleshooting/help/troubleshoot-turbotax-for-windows-updating-issues/00/25885 OR if you can't update it, try reinstalling the program. It will have all the updates to date. Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account when you first install it, all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac) you can download it again. Please click here for instructions on clearing your cookies.   If you are using a TurboTax Desktop program, you can switch to Forms Mode by clicking on Forms near the top right of your TurboTax screen. Scroll down to Schedule A and delete all the data in line 2 and re-enter the zero.   If this does not help go back to your state section of your TurboTax program and go through the screens again to trigger a recalculation.   If there is still an error, it may have been carried over from the Federal form. Make sure your federal Schedule A is properly completed.    Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.

@phdstudentb ,  based on your post  (a) need the exact dates  for 2025 -- when you left and when you came back. That example  #10,  uses exact dates to compute  whether you passed SPT prior to exiting the country.. So , and based on your  post that you left ( while still on J-1) at the end of July,    For 2023 --  08/xx/2023 -- 12/31/2023 ---- Exempt  ( J-1) For 2024 -- 01/01/2024 through 12/31/2024 -- Exempt (J-1) For 2025 -- 01/01/2025 through  08/xx-1/2025 -- Exempt (J-1)                      09/xx/2025 through 12/31/2025 -- Exempt on F-1 Thus I conclude that you are probably exempt for 2025..   It would be best if you provide more details on your sojourn in the USA for the full six years  from 2025 backwards.     Please I am assuming here that while on F-1 you are actually meeting the requirements  ( full time student )

If you still owe back taxes, the IRS may offset your 2025 tax refund (which includes your child tax credit).   The Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) will send you a notice if an offset of your tax refund occurs. The notice will reflect the original refund amount, your offset amount, the agency receiving the payment, and the address and telephone number of the agency. BFS will notify the IRS of the amount taken from your refund once your refund date has passed.    You should contact the agency shown on the notice if you believe you don't owe the debt or if you're disputing the amount taken from your refund.    If you don't receive a notice, contact the BFS's TOP call center at 800-304-3107 (or TTY/TDD 866-297-0517), Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST.   For more information: https://fiscal.treasury.gov/top/
