The deduction for seniors is not an itemized deduction. You get the deduction for seniors whether you take the standard deduction or itemized deductions. The deduction is not necessarily $6,000. That's the maximum per person. The deduction is gradually reduced if your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) is over $75,000 ($150,000 if married filing jointly), so if your income is over that amount you will not get the full $6,000 per person. The deduction is reduced to zero if MAGI is $175,000 or more ($250,000 if married filing jointly).
I already have an account with TurboTax and have started my taxes.  Can I still use my MetLife services to pay the filing fees?

Interest income earned on a bank account would be sourced in the state in which you reside. Since you are not a resident of California, you would not have to pay tax on it there. However, the Form 1099-INT reporting the interest may list the income as taxable in California since you have an address there. So it may be wise to submit a non-resident tax return if you are concerned about getting notices. Also, it may be difficult to explain to the California Franchise Tax Board why you have an address there if you don't reside there. They may default to the entry on the Form 1099-INT and assume you are a resident and require you to pay any tax due.   Your income would have to be over certain thresholds to be required to file, you can see the applicable tables here from the California Franchise Tax Board.
I can't advise on that but paging others in case they can help further   @dmertz @Mike9241 @mesquitebean @DoninGA @VolvoGirl

I have used H&R Block, TaxAct, MilTax, etc. The reason I've returned to Turbo Tax was for features they are slowly losing. If you don't have consistency and keep taking away desirable features, Turbo Tax will be comparable to the other platforms and not better. This year I feel like I have to continually check over my forms because my inputs or lack of inputs are not updating correctly (education). If I wanted to do my taxes myself, I wouldn't purchase Turbo Tax.
