When you enter your W-2, there is a page for special circumstances that has a box to check for "overtime."  This will launch an interview to cover both OT that is reported separately and OT that is only in box 1.  The calculation will be performed on schedule 1-A, and it will also flow correctly to states that either follow or don't follow the new law.

I am an IHSS live-in provider filing for 2025. My W-2 has Box 1 = $0.00 and Box 3/5 = [amount], which is correct under IRS Notice 2014-7. I followed the current TurboTax recommended steps per these official TurboTax articles: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/form-w-2/qualified-medicaid-waiver-payments-w-2-show-earned/L1XZa89dh_US_en_US?uid=m6scnxra https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-ihss-live-in-provider-zero-income/01/3466131/highlight/false#M1281396 https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-ihss-live-in-provider-zero-income/01/3467820/highlight/false#M1282133 Steps followed: Left Box 1 as $0 Checked "Nontaxable Medicaid waiver payments that qualify as difficulty of care payments" under uncommon situations Entered the full Box 3/5 amount as the difficulty of care amount This correctly excludes the IHSS wages from federal taxable income. However TurboTax is blocking e-filing with this error: "One of the W-2s doesn't have an amount in box 1 or the amount is less than $1." The older workaround of copying Box 3 into Box 1 allowed e-filing but is now explicitly discouraged by the links above.   My questions: Is paper filing truly the only option when following the current correct method with Box 1 = $0? Is there any other workaround that keeps Box 1 = $0 while allowing e-filing? For example: Is it ok to enter $1 in Box 1 of W2, and enter the amount from box 3 into  Checking "Nontaxable Medicaid waiver payments that qualify as difficulty of care payment "?   Thank you!

My ex-husband and I sold our house last year, closing in February after our divorce was finalized in September 2024. The title was not in my name, nor was the mortgage, but per our divorce decree, I got half of the equity from the sale. A check was cut to me directly from the title company, but I had to get him to give the okay to the title company to release the sale settlement to me for my records. I am having an extremely difficult time figuring out whether I truly need to file a 1099-S form for my portion of the equity. I was not involved in the closing, I was never sent a copy of the form, and I have been told several different things by different sources. The IRS page is, as is to be expected, extremely convoluted and difficult to discern. Does anyone have any insight into this? I realize I'm down to the wire here, but the continuous confusion around this has been terrible. Thanks in advance.
payment is showing deduct from taxes for payment but I paid with a credit card and need to fix this so I can mail in my taxes.

I am a concert pianist. I file a schedule C for my business. I purchased 2 pianos in 2025. The cost was $3,300 and $28,500. TurboTax is asking whether I want to take the section 179 depreciation or Special Depreciation Allowance but it is not explained very well as to which is better. Can anyone explain the pros and cons in layman's terms?

Forget the remark above.  The major problem was that I was confronted with a series of questions for which the answer was to choose between a check mark or a check mark with a box around it.  Both situations contained a check mark.  When I telephoned an Intuit rep, he was provided access to my screen.  I was surprised to learn that what he saw was not the same as what I saw...on the very same screen.  He said he saw were check marks  or empty boxes.  I had no empty boxes at all.  WIndows 11.  Up to date. I am in the process of returning the product.  Paying someone else to do my taxes.

I have an off-the-grid electrical system with solar panels, batteries, and inverter/battery chargers. I added solar panels, and replaced the batteries and inverters with upgraded technology, costing about $72,000. I think I should get a 30% tax credit for this. When I began the deductions section in turbo-tax it asked if I was eligible for any clean energy tax credits, but then never asked me to enter any details.

Look at the rejection message that mentions the dependent.   It will end in 01, 02, 03 etc.   Then look for the names of the dependents on your Form1040 and see which one is "first," "second", "third" etc. to identify which SSN is the issue.   The most likely suspect is usually a teenager or student who filed their own tax return and did not say they can be claimed as someone else's dependent.   When there is duplicate use of a SSN, you can print, sign and mail your return and let the IRS sort out the duplicate use of the SSN.   Or you can get IP PIN's and try again to e-file.       GET IP pin in order to e-file if your dependent’s SSN was claimed on another return   https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-takes-steps-to-help-prevent-refund-delays-by-accepting-duplicate-dependent-returns-with-an-ip-pin-for-2025-filing-season-taxpayers-encouraged-to-sign-up-soon-for-ip-pin-online-account     https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin
