I’ve deleted and added the 1099-R multiple times; the code is 7 and was always 7 in the past years. I have never had issues completing a return until this year and it’s because of this military retirement “glitch.” It continues to read it as an early withdrawal and penalizes me with the 10% withdrawal fee that comes from my gross distribution. I do not want to pay for the “expert help” when this is not an issue on my end. I would appreciate if someone could look without charging me. Thanks.

I'm getting ready to go to another tax app if the Residential Energy Credit section is not opened up soon. I am ready to file my taxes now. The link provided stated this section would be available on the 21st. It is still not available in the app and not getting any responses here in the community.

I actually was able to put $0.01 in both box 1 and 2a, but only from the error check screen. I initially put $0.01 in box 1 and $0.00 in box 2a to be able to exit the screen, but that was flagged as an error during error check. However, in the error correction screen, I was able to put $0.01 in box 2a. Of course, going back into the actual interview form caused an error and it wouldn't let met exit that screen as before. This really seems like a bug of some sorts. Does Intuit monitor these chats or is there a way to send bugs directly to them?

It depends. I've checked the desktop version of TurboTax, and it works correctly. Go to the forms mode in your return. Select 1040 in your list of forms, and check to see if line 14 is greater than 11B. If so, you will receive all of your tax withholding as a refund because line 16 is zero.
If line 16 is showing a taxable amount and if line 11b is greater than Line 14, check Line 34 to see if it has a different refund amount than the total of your withholding. Sometimes the refund meter may be different, but if the 1040 total is correct, that is what the IRS will use to determine your refund.

Send your amended 2024 return by mail. Print it, sign and date it in ink and mail it. Use a tracking service such as certified mail to know it was received, since you will have a long wait.
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

If your refund is enough to cover your TurboTax fees PLUS the extra “refund processing” fee of $40 ($45 in CA) and your forms are ready then when you are in the FILE section you can choose to have your fees deducted from your federal refund by a third party bank, who will take out your fees and send you the rest of your refund after the IRS issues the refund.
Please make note that if your refund takes too long to arrive (IRS delays, etc.) then you will also be agreeing that the TurboTax fees can be extracted from your bank account even before your refund is issued by the IRS. This comes as an unpleasant shock to many people every year.
If you can possibly pay your fees upfront using a debit or credit card, it will save you that extra fee and even more importantly, the possible aggravation and delays that are often the result of poor handling/poor customer service by that third party bank. We see way too many instances where refunds are delayed for months when users choose refund processing. There have been lots of complaints; there are a number of things that can go wrong when you use refund processing. I suggest avoiding that situation if at all possible.
And....you can never pay state tax due from a federal refund, so do not expect that. The state tax due has to be paid directly to your state.
What is Refund Processing Service?
How can I see my TurboTax fees?

If the construction loan was secured by your new home, you would amortize those points over the life of the loan. In your case, allocate the points over six months and deduct the portion that applies to each tax year.
If you take out a new mortgage to pay off that loan (also secured by the home), you are essentially refinancing the construction loan. If you refinance with a different bank than the one holding the construction loan (or pay it off with cash), you can deduct your remaining points on the construction loan when you pay it off.
However, if you refinance with the same bank, you must roll those points into the new loan and start the clock all over again.

The IRS would likely not be concerned about the missing Form 1099-R since the amount reported will not affect your tax due. It is not likely therefore to create an audit risk.

To enter your tips you will need to enter your W-2 and include the amount you received in box 7. Entering the amount inbox 7 will trigger the rest of the questions after you hit continue when done entering your W-2. In order to claim tips, the following must apply: The tips MUST be reported. If they are not reported on a form to the IRS you cannot claim them for the no tax on tips deduction. If employed they need to be reported on your W-2 or form 4137 If self-employed, they must be reported on a 1099. If you received them as cash, they are not deductible. Your income must be below $150,000 if you are single or less than $300,000 if Married Filing Jointly. Above these amounts, the deduction starts to fade out and is not available at all for those with income over $400,000 for single and $550,000 for Married Filing Jointly. You can not claim this deduction if you are Married Filing Separately You receive tips from an occupation that normally and customarily receives tips If all of the above apply, TurboTax will generate a Schedule 1-A for your return. This amount will be deducted from your AGI. Remember, this is a deduction NOT a credit. This means it will lower your taxable income, which can lower your tax liability. You will NOT see a refund in the amount of the Tips you enter. Tips are reported on Schedule 1-a, Part II with the total amount you are qualified for reported on line 13 of Schedule 1-A. If you are getting the deduction and have income left to reduce, you will see the change to your income on line 11a of your form 1040. If your AGI is lower than your tips your benefit from the deduction will be limited to your AGI before the deduction. To see your form 1040 you can switch to forms mode if you are using TurboTax Online or if you are using the online version you can select Tools>>Tax Tools>> Preview my 1040. This is the "learning year" for all the new changes and not all companies are reporting things the same way yet. Box 7 is not a box that the IRS generally uses for anything. They are most concerned with box 1 and 2 and then the rest of your forms that are filled out and filed. If you want to ask for a corrected W-2, it would not hurt. Some employers will, others won't. But, if you have one that won't, just file using the above steps.

There are two Education Credits.
One credit, the American Opportunity Tax Credit AOTC) uses expenses for books not purchased from the school.
The second credit is the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC) and for that credit only books purchased from the school would count.
If you are not eligible for the American Opportunity Tax Credit, the program will not ask for the cost of books not purchased from the school.
HERE is a link that explains the different education credits.

@cgenius80 The 2024 amended tax return cannot be e-filed using TurboTax. It can only be printed and mailed. In the File section of the program you need to select File by mail
