Were the EINs (Employer Identification Numbers) the same for the two corporate entities? If the EINs are different, then TurboTax will calculate the excess of the SS tax withheld, and place it on line 11 of Schedule 3 (1040), to be refunded to you. However, historically, if the EINs are the same, TurboTax will just tell you to go get the excess from your employer, since for all TurboTax knows, they are the same employer, having the same EINs.   Anyway, let us know if you need anything else.

Turbotax supports filing your 1040 if you have received a k-1 from a trust.   Only TurboTax Business supports a Trust filing its own 1041, which can include a K-1 to give to a beneficiary.   I assume you mean that you received a K-1 from a trust. In that case, this TT help article describes how to navigate to the interview for entering your K-1. It is possible that the box 11 deductions will help you on your 1040, but it is also possible that they won't change your tax liability. I would definitely enter it so that TT can figure that out. When following the instructions below be certain to choose 1041/trust K-1 because other entities can issue K-1s and they are different (LLCs, etc.) https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/enter-k-1-received/L0GrC2Hcd_US_en_US

It depends.  If it is an online company meaning that you work remotely in Indiana for the Maryland company, then that income should be taxed only by Indiana.  If you are physically working in Maryland for the online company, then you would be taxed by Maryland on that income.   If you worked remotely in Indiana for the online company, you would not need to file a Maryland tax return UNLESS they mistakenly withheld Maryland state tax on your income, in which case you would file the Maryland return to get those taxes refunded to you.   If you were physically present in Maryland doing the work, you would file a non-resident Maryland return and a resident Indiana return.  File the non-resident Maryland return first and complete it before working on the Indiana return.  Indiana would then tax all your income, but would also give you credit for the income tax you paid to Maryland, so that the Maryland income is not "double-taxed" by both states.

I have had this same issue with Turbo Tax every single year for over 20 years. I have asked the question many times but they won't answer it.  It is very misleading, especially since it asks the question, Do you want to use your free state return. In the past I have done my mom's return, and my childs return and have never seen any difference in what each return charges.  It is always the same $25.00  What does it take to get an answer? This has caused me to lose some confidence and trust in Turbo Tax. I figure they owe me $25. x 20 years for this.

It depends.  If your employer entered it in box 14, then yes, it will go in box 14 and you will select Overtime.  If they did not, then after you enter your W-2 you will select the box under Less Common situations that says Overtime.  Then continue through the steps to enter your overtime.  TurboTax will give you the option to enter the amount that is deductible or it can calculate it for you.

It depends on what your Line 17A amount is Form 502. Line 17 deduction amount is that you take Line 17A and then subtract the total of 17B nd 17C. If the totals of 17B and 17C exceed 17A, then the standard deduction amount is higher.   Line 17A is the total federal itemized deductions reported in the federal return. If you haven't reported any itemized deductions in this section, then do so just so it will populate in the Maryland 502 Form. it doesn't matter if there aren't enough deductions to itemize.  You are entering this for informational purposes and to help complete your Maryland return.

I filed my taxes, and the 21-day mark was April 7th. The " Where's my refund app shows that it was accepted, but nothing more. I received a letter from the IRS dated 3/26 asking for "verification of your identity and tax return is required". I received this on 4/4, verified it that same day, and received confirmation that I was verified. Now it is 4/13, and the tracker still just says the return was accepted; it hasn't moved at all, and I am starting to get concerned. This has never happened to me before. Any thoughts?

There is no federal deduction for making a contribution to a 529 plan, so there is no place in the TurboTax (TT) Federal program to enter it.  TT will not be tracking your contributions.    Some states allow a deduction on the state return. If your state is one, it will come up in the state interview; usually in the "Here's how (your state) handles income differently" section.  If you state allows a carryforward, the TT state program will track that.   For Illinois              Navigate to the Illinois section of TurboTax (State Taxes > Your State Returns > Illinois)             Choose Income, Edit             Expand Education             Start or Revisit College savings and prepaid tuition plan contributions             Enter the information from the 529 contribution
I want to view the Forms used to enter fields on the 1040.
