@ bmcullen13 wrote: If the page starts with We're glad you're here! when i login where do I find the previous year tax return I am logged in but i cant see any options to find old documents it just wants me to start a new tax return If you are in the right account (i.e., if you don't unknowingly have multiple accounts), and it's acting like it wants you to start a new return, then you DO have to start a new return for a few screens (but don't have to prepare it) to get the full tab menu and ability to get to past returns. Or if you already prepared or are working on a 2024 return, you could have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. Read all of the info below to see which one is your situation: This answer assumes your 2023 return was prepared in Online TurboTax. Any return prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account. Here's how one would normally find past-year online returns and how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) if necessary. Many people end up with more than 1 account. The pathway to download the PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2024 return. I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation. If you have not yet started a 2024 online return: Sign in to your account. What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2024 return in that account. If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2024 return in that account. If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions. Answer those preliminary questions on a few screens (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process, the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option in the left menu column. Do not click the Documents tab. Instead, click on Tax Home. Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents". Expand that section and choose the past year you want. If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot. If you have already started or finished a 2024 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2024 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home. If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu. Do not use the Documents tab. At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents." If the past returns are not there, see the steps below. If you do all that and can't find the past return, here's how to look for multiple accounts: You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes. A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be. It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all. To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below. When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it. After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access, here's another method: Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.

The Payments section is Lines 12-17. Code 570 can take many months ( eight or more) to be resolved, not 7-14 days. by then the e-File window will be closed. I would send the second amendment with Part II telling the IRS what your changes are all about. You control whether a state amendment is e-Filed or not. @Omar80

If so, and if they insist on it and won't accept the Electronic Postmark that @VolvoGirl mentioned above, then the only way to get the actual MeF Submission ID is to get it from TurboTax Support. I believe it's a 20-digit number. I don’t know how it works in the Business program but I think it should be the same as the personal Desktop programs. After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return). Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.

I filed an S-Corp business return using Turbotax Online. I need to amend that return. I purchased and downloaded Turbotax Business desktop, and downloaded the .tax file for the 2024 S-Corp return I wish to amend. On the desktop program "Work on a Tax Return" page, I click Amend a Return, Find a Tax File, and select the .tax file for the return I want to amend. I get the message. "Your federal tax return is now on this computer. Let's get your [state] S Corporation state forms next. Error: 190" I click "Download my state forms." The first time I did this I selected my state and paid the $55 fee to add state to the program. When I check the box for my state Partnership return and click Download Now, I get some spinny graphics and it returns to the "Work on a Tax Return page but there are still no files found. I have repeated the above process (minus the paying for the state tax program) multiple times and it is always the same result. The program appears to be unable to find the files and I don't know where my state file is at all.

Does your answer apply when the assets are transferred out of an IRA in a living trust to a beneficiary/heir (me)? My mom passed away in 2020. This particular portfolio was part of her trust ( whether Traditional IRA or ROTH I am still trying to determine.) I am in this trust with 2 other brothers. I transferred my portion of this particular portion of mutual fund shares out of the trust to my individual account in 2022, and then liquidated them in 2024. Were my mom still alive, I don't expect she would have to pay taxes on the full value of the asset if she cashed out - she would have only paid taxes on the net gain in value. So why should I expect to pay taxes an the whole value of liquidated shares, as if the starting basis was $0? At a minimum, why would not at least $18K be considered a tax free gift and I only pay a tax on the difference between the sales price and $18K? Or as I said, the difference between the step up value and the sales price. In 2024, the annual gift tax exclusion allows individuals to give up to $18,000 per recipient without incurring gift tax, while the lifetime gift and estate tax exemption is set at $12.92 million. I think we might be talking apples and oranges here ( I could have been clearer in my problem description). This is not a typical "distribution" from a retirement plan in the traditional sense. I cashed out an asset held in my deceased mothers trust.

In the PDF of your TurboTax return, the last page of the federal return is an "electronic postmark" that shows your name, Social Security number, the date and time that you e-filed the return, and the date that the IRS accepted it. When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. For Online, When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. what does it say? If it says Ready to Mail that means you are suppose to print and mail your return to the IRS. To check the filing status in the Desktop program, In the Desktop program open your return and go up to menu item File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

I manually entered my K-1 - no option to download. However, I did find an answer in the community. Apparently the AE code from the software does not populate to the IRS forms correctly. I've posted the solution I found here from User "ZpTax" dated March 15, 2025. "So, it appears that code AE isn't outside of codes listed between W and ZZ, despite of its alphabetical designation. Very confusing, Mr. IRS. I now have the amount specified in K-1 under code AE in the Additional Information Form for Sch. K-1, Box 13, line 8, Other (enter description) as "Portfolio Income (code AE)", as it is characterized in the IRS Instructions for Sch. K-1. I did receive the instructions from the fund owners that list code AE for Box 13, but do not state where it belongs. " This had to be entered on the "K1P Addl Infor 1" form under "Box 13: Other Deductions", "Code W to ZZ: Other Deductions", and on "Line 8. Other *" of that section. As per the instructions above, I entered the description: Portfolio Income (Code AE) and the amount given for Code AE on my K-1. The reason I was getting the error was the total line already had the information entered. Apparently that line does not "subtotal" from the lines above. After doing this I no longer had an error and was able to file. I agree with the other poster, I think this is a IRS form issue to begin with, but Turbo Tax needs to make sure that they are mapping everything correctly. There is no specific line for Code AE for Box 13.

Yeah, that cannot and will not happen....EVER. No court of competent jurisidiction in this country can enjoin a for-profit corporation from making a legitimate (lawful) business decision. You've got to be joking here. Why not just move on? Explore alternatives. Posting on this board will get you preceisely NOTHING; it will do no good whatsoever......it never has in the past.

I sympathize, as I am in the same boat--a nice compact form PC with solid state drive, loads of memory, but operating on Windows 10. As it was purchased in 2020, it likely has the TPM 2.0 CPU. I do find the logic of Intuit's recent message to customers definitively stating that a downloadable version of TurboTax will not be sold for use with Windows 10 operating systems, due to MS' failure to support Windows 10 with security updates. In point of fact, MS has agreed to support Windows 10 users with security fixes on payment of a $30 fee post-October 15, 2025 for another year. I suspect that further extensions will continue for a while. One would speculate that the real reason for Intuit's decision is that the company does not wish to expend the money to tweak the software to recognize "security updated" Windows 10 software during the download process. That is, is this a PC/laptop using Windows 10 subject to the MS ESA (with security updates) or not? Given how many software changes must be made in the code every single year, due to the copious number of tax law revisions in the federal and state governments, I do perceive the inability of the Intuit coders to develop a software tweak to identify a Windows 10 ESA operating system vs. a Windows 10 w/o security fixes to be specious and unconvincing. In any case, for my part, after using Intuit's downloadable software (TT Premier) for six consecutive years, I will move to the H & R Block equivalent in 2025. My tax situation implicates investment in gas & oil MLP's, foreign stock equity dividends, etc., which require access to the "forms" review function to correct errors created by the "questions" approach to completion of the forms. TT Online does not offer "forms" review and modification function, so departing from TurboTax next year is a no-brainer for me; I am not paying a couple grand for a new machine, just to be able to use TurboTax.

$2442 of UBIA of qualified property carried through from 2023 years return. The corporation had no income in 2024, (I started using a different corp) and when I entered this information on my personal return I got an error message. What do I do? Do I have to put in a correct K1 and do I lose a deduction?
