TurboTax won't pay taxes you already owe but you can file a claim for penalties and interest. Although, it is your responsibility to verify the numbers are correct before filing.

Your main home is where you live most of the time. It doesn't have anything to do with which is newer or cost more.
It also doesn't really matter in this case unless there are more facts you haven't told us. You are allowed to deduct property taxes on all US property you own, whether it is your main home or a second home. And you can deduct mortgage interest on your main home and one second home. If you have three or more homes, you have to decide which two to deduct, but if you only owned two homes the interest on both is deductible and it probably doesn't make a difference which you designate as your main home.

Thanks, Amy. Just before hearing from you, I kept trying things. I actually discovered an expense of a dollar for 2025 (an item prorated on the closing statement). So, that was legitimate (and similar to your suggestion), but I still had to manually input the information on Schedule E. Now I'm wondering about the sale of my personal residence. I've entered all the information, but the taxable amount is not showing up on the Turbo Tax summary page at the start of each session. Thanks. Carol

Two Mac users above said that restarting their computer solved the issue for them. If you tried that, and it didn't help, then hopefully another Mac user will see this thread and comment further. If not, here's how to reach TurboTax Support: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/contact/

I am the live-in landlord of an up-down duplex. I had some repiping done for the kitchen in my own unit on the second floor. To do the job, the plumber had to open the wall in the renter's kitchen on the first floor. I paid $300 for the drywaller to restore the wall, plus about $100 to repaint the whole small kitchen. Since the work was part of a project on my personal unit, are any of the expenses deductible? I can see how the drywall might not be deductible, but the renter does benefit from the new paint job.

i purchased and installed TurboTax Home and Business 2025. It imported our personal information from last year's file (names, jobs, address, etc.) but it's not importing the numbers (income, expenses, etc.) from the TurboTax Home and Business 2024 file. No figures appear from the 2024 return - they are all "0". I already deleted one import and started over with a new import of last year's file and it did the same thing. This not NOT the free version, I paid around $100 for a product that doesn't work. I called a number to speak to an agent but the recording assumes I need tax help. I don't need that, it's a software issue. I need tech support. So what's the number to call?
