My daughter turned 24 in 2025 she still lives at home, goes to school and has no bills. However, she goes to school on line and also worked. She made roughly 30,000, in 2025 before she quit. For taxes, since she is over 5k it says she is a nondependent. Does this mean she can now claim herself on her taxes? She is still on our insurance, can she still stay on that till she is 26 even though she is now considered a non dependent. She is no longer working and not sure if she will return to work in 2026.

That is considered a "conversion". It will be fully taxable at your regular tax rate. If you do the conversion before 12/31/25, you will need to make an estimated tax payment by January 15, 2026, AND you will need to include a penalty calculation form on your tax return (form 2210 with schedule AI, the annualized income method) that will show the IRS that your income was not evenly spread over the year, but you made appropriate tax payments when needed. Otherwise, you might be assessed an underpayment penalty.
However, if you do the conversion between January 1 and March 31, 2026, you can spread out your estimated payments over 4 payments due April 15, June 15, Sept 15, and Jan 15, 2027.
You can also do a partial conversion if you don't want to pay all the tax at once. You can do a tax-free rollover from the 401k to a pre-tax traditional IRA, and then do partial conversions over time as you can afford the taxes.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
You may want to contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area. See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate - https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/ or call 1-877-777-4778

@grahamseib do note that as of now many provisions of the recent tax law changes and even older sections are not ready or have not been incorporated into TT2025. many state returns aren't available yet. just an alert so you realize that the actual results for 2025 could differ significantly from what you get using the current version.

@brandonduargiro0403 Are you referring to the NY Inflation refund checks? @xmasbaby0 I did a quick search and was able to find requirements and helpful links: "You are eligible for a refund check if, for tax year 2023, you:
-filed Form IT-201, New York State Resident Income Tax Return -reported income within the qualifying thresholds below, and -were not claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return" This was found at NYC 311. Also see Inflation refund checks. Hope this helps, if not, let us know what state or fund you're looking at so we can help guide you in the right direction.

I have multiple questions regarding a situation, as it could end up in a number of scenerios. My husband was on SSDI (Social Security Disability) for a time period due to stage 4 cancer. He did return to work Novemeber 2024. It was properly reported to SSDI office. All paperwork handled. They pay 1 month behind, so last actual check should have been the one he recieved 12/2024. He continued getting checks in 2025, and we kept reporting it and were basically told to hang tight his case was still under review. Said possible 9 month work trial, Whatever. We contacted them Again in Sept of 2025 hoping to get an asnwer, and if we owed money back for them to please send us a bill after them saying it did not look like he was owed benefits in 2025, but still no decision made or bill sent to us to pay back money. It never happened. Again, hold tight. Now we are closing into the end of the year, and I am stressed about how this will affect our Tax filing for 2025. We are almost positive he will owe a bug chunk of money back for 2025 income. Scenerio 1 We are lucky enough to get a bill from them to pay it all back in Dec 2025 BEFORE the first of the year, and then any tax forms we get from them would reflect what we paid back already, and we are all good to file taxes late January. (we paid in taxes so even if paid back we need tax form to show what we paid in on that money) Scenerio 2 SS continues to drag thier feet for months from now, and then decide to send us a bill to pay the 2025 income money back anytime in the following year 2026? Whether before or after we already filed our taxes. 1. If we end up owing money back but do not get the bill to pay them back until 2026, does that mean we would have to go back and amend our 2025 taxes? (cause in the end that was no longer income in 2025?) if I would have to amend 2025, how do I do that? would SSDI send a new updated tax form to file? OR 2 If we get a bill in 2026 we owe the money back, we would instead get a tax form for 2026 to include that income pay back information in 2026 taxes? I apologise, I hope my questions make sense, this is already causing me anxiety wondering what will happen in the months coming up, when we typically file taxes in late Jan and and scared this won't be resolved by then. Thank you to anyone who is kind enough to explain the situation to me in a way I can understand.
