Have you filed joint returns in the past?  If so you can get her SSN from a past year tax return or from a transcript of a past return.   You can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $30, an actual copy of your tax return. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf   Or you can file by mail and write on the top of the Form 1040 that your spouse's SSN is not available.     The thing about filing MFS is that you both have to file the same way.   You both have to itemize or you both have to use standard deduction.   Perhaps your divorce attorney can help you with getting the information you need.

Thank you. Will you clarify what you mean by start my return first? This will be my 3rd year filing an 1120s with TurboTax. I have entered the basic business info for 2025 and purchased the 2025 online turbotax. Are you saying that if I start entering some income and expenses, the QEFs will work? Thank you again for your reply.

@tatikil11    1)  If you filed the Federal part separately  (pushed the Transmit button), then you cannot file the State forms until the IRS "Accepts" your Federal tax return....and...except for some test files, the IRS expects to START accepting the millions of tax files waiting...sometime during the week of 26 January.   2)  And it is possible, your state is one of a few that are not accepting any e-files until the end of the month...some even if the IRS accepts yours early, your state may not be allowing any e-files yet.  Several have 22 January as the first filing date allowed, I seem to recall that there was at lest one that delayed until 29 January.   Intuit App

Many federal and state forms are not yet available.  Check here for form availability. The dates are subject to change.   Tax form availability tool     Be patient.    IF you e-file now, your return will go into “pending” until the IRS starts to accept/reject returns in late January. You cannot make any changes while the return is on the server. The IRS will start to accept/reject 2025 e-files on January 26.   And….a state return cannot be accepted until after the IRS accepts your federal return.

I get all the way thru the process to file my taxes - but when I try to print a copy of the federal and state tax forms - it tells me that the state forms are not available yet because some of the forms haven't been finalized yet?       Won't even let me print the federal forms because of this - even when I try to select the option of "specific forms" - the print return screen doesn't' give the normal option at the bottom of the screen to print   I looked back through comments and see the same issue in January 2025 - not sure how it was resolved - didn't have this issue - but also did taxes later in the spring (March) - is there a specific date to wait until to file taxes through Turbo tax?

Do you report the interest earned in PR to the IRS or do you have to file in PR to report the interest from an American Bank that has branches in PR? The credit Union is Baxter Credit Union. I received a 1099 interest form indicating that it was reported to the IRS.

@cck You asked if you need a different account for your father.   The reply told you that YES you need a different account.   You cannot use your own account and user ID for your father's tax return or his return will overwrite your own and yours will be lost.   Establish an account and user ID for him.  You can use the same email that you used for your return, but he must have his own account and user ID.
I just purchase the software but when I go to download it to my MacBook Air or Mini  it is says the platform you have selected is not supported.  Please advise.

You can enter the IP PIN but you cannot e-file.  E-filing is permanently closed for 2024 returns.  The return can only be filed by mail now.  Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
