If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand. Here are some basic forms….. Here is the IRS 2023 Form 1040 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2023.pdf or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2023.pdf And 2023 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2023.pdf 2023 Tax and EIC Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2023.pdf Sch 1 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2023.pdf Sch 2 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2023.pdf Sch 3 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2023.pdf You have to print and mail prior year returns. When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.

You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2025 only.   Only a 2025 return can be prepared online and only a 2025 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
None of this is working.  What solutions do you have to connect to amerprise.  Very frustrating going to look at other options if this problem can not be fixed.
I don't see the worksheet that shows the calculation for max credit in the forms I printed - but the number is correct
The website only allows me to start a return for 2025
I saved .pdf files. Wasn’t the .tax2024 data file supposed to save automatically?

Since you are still legally married you can file as Married Filing Separately.  However, if you have not lived with your spouse for the last 6 months of the year and you have a qualifying person as a dependent plus you have provided over one-half the cost to maintain a home, you would be eligible for Head of Household.   So, when asked for your filing status select Married and that you will not be including your spouse on the tax return.  After entering your dependent the program will ask a series of questions to determine if you are eligible for Head of Household.
If your dependent was a full-time college student, make sure you were careful on the MY INFO screen for “Uncommon situations” and that you indicated there that they were a student.

Still getting this error above during the check that the program has not been updated yet. This is getting rather annoying. Trying to kludge a solution using trustee to trustee and hoping you don't get audited is not acceptable and shouldn't be expected. Again, this basic setup worked last year and the rules have not changed they just split moving 529 to 529 and 529 rollover to Roth. It is past time that the program is fixed and released to the customers. This delay along with the removal of ItsDeductible might be just the reason I look elsewhere for tax software next year.
