Just seeking clarification on how to do this correctly from a data entry perspective. Switched from a managed TIAA IRA account to a Fidelity IRA part way through the year. No taxable events -- just brokeage to brokerage transfer. TIAA does not have good documentation on its site for that transferred account or RMDs. The TurboTax questons for splitting two accounts is not very clear. Fidelity (thankfully) calculated the full year RMD for last year to determine monthly withdrawls. It shows amount withdrawn from Fidleity and that matches theFidelity 1099; it also shows the balance that was NOT taken in 2025, but that number matches what was withdrawn earlier in the year from TIAA on the TIAA 1099. When answering the RMD question it seemed like the only way to get it to work was to enter part of the RMD in the TIAA section and the remainig part in the Fidelity section (the two responses together = the full year RMD). In the next set of questions -- How much of this distribution applied to your December 31, 2025 RMD -- asnwered "entire" distribution. That seemed to work. Essentially, I prorated the full amount assigned to each different account. Is that wrong? Will it work out if you put full year RMD in each brokerage/1099 entry and then split later. The instruction in that section when asking for RMD amount is not clear.

I don't qualify for AOTC on my return because of AGI limit. I will forego the $500 child credit by not claiming my son on my return so that he can get AOTC if he can. 1099-Q Box 1: $39,000, Box 2: 15,000, Box 3: 24,000. So, the $4000 allocation to another 1098-T will still be on his return. I assume TT will use 1099-Q to cover that $4000 instead of assigning it to AOTC. He has W2 for $1600 and 1099-MISC Box 3 from summer internship and stipend for $30,000. Is there a way for him to get AOTC?

Line 19 of the Earlier Year Lump-Sum Social Security Worksheet represents the 2024 refigured taxable Social Security amount, not the current year taxable amount.
The amount reported on Line 21 for additional taxable Social Security benefits is the 2024 amount that should be taxed but has not been. This is then carried to another worksheet to be combined with your current year taxable Social Security benefits. This is the Lump-Sum Social Security Worksheet. Take a look at Lines 27 through 29 of that worksheet.
If you still have concerns that something is not quite right, consider providing a diagnostic copy of your tax data file and someone can take a closer look at your actual numbers to explain it in greater detail. Select Tax Tools in the menu to the left.
Select Tools.
Select Share my file with agent.
A pop-up message will appear, select OK to send the sanitized diagnostic copy to us.
Post the token number here.
If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:
Select Online at the top of the screen.
Select Send Tax File to Agent.

I have a 1099-DA from Coinbase but I also have a Koinly summary of gains/losses from another exchange that does not file 1099-DA's. Where do I upload this? I can't find anything on Turbotax.

This issue has been posted different ways, but I wanted to focus in on (1) drawing Intuit's attention to it -- again) and (2) responses that a "work around" works. One fund was flagged by TT25 in the final check process as needing to answer Yes or No to "Digital Asset." The fund was not a Digtal Asset. Answered "No" in the dialog box and it continued to present the question in an endless loop (seems that is an Intuit problem in the program). Switched to "form" mode -- as discussed in these posts -- and saw the one empty fund response and marked it as digital no. It allowed the marking, but did not correct the issue. Is there an easier way than manually entering every transaction?

During the import of my 1099 investment sales transactions, those investments with "S&P" in the name had the name replaced by the letter "P". Why isn't the "&" allowed? See the turbotax message below: ! Avoid using symbols like ', ", &, <, and >. Example: 20 shares of XYZ company. Is the above limitation/restriction clearly communicated to the financial businesses that produce the 1099 sales transactions? Thanks for the Help. Gary

Income reported on Form 1099-NEC is entered as part of Schedule C Business Income and Expenses because you are considered to be self-employed by the company who paid you. If you already have a Schedule C in your return, then you can enter the Form 1099-NEC under the Income section of the Schedule C.
Otherwise, use the information in the following TurboTax help article to get started:
What is a 1099-NEC?
Then, after the Form 1099-NEC has been entered, you will be asked questions about what type of work you did to earn the money. This will help you get started entering the information for your Schedule C Business Income and Expenses that goes along with the Form 1099-NEC.
