Any answers from the IRS, unless in writing, are unofficial. If you rely on oral answers and they're wrong, you have no recourse to mitigate any additional taxes, penalties, or interest imposed. That doesn't man you get a wrong answer. Just that you can't rely on it.    perhaps if you post your question in this forum, some consistent insight might be provided.  However, many things are unclear in the tax laws so different responders can have different viewpoints

No.  If you had Medicaid for the entire year and were not at all covered by insurance through the Marketplace in 2025, you would not need a 1095-A.

If you are filing a joint Alabama return, the tax is calculated based on all income, then the percentage of Alabama income is applied to determine the tax due.  You can file a separate Alabama return, but the tax savings are unlikely to be worth the time and effort needed to prepare and file the returns.   See How do I prepare a joint federal return and separate state.

If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:  (Don't forget to give us the state)   TurboTax Online: Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.  Then select Tools below Tax Tools. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.   On this screen, select Share my file with Agent. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number. Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information. TurboTax Desktop: If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps: Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'* > Follow the prompts to reach the token number. Enter your email used for TurboTax > Enter your code > Send Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution. Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return. *If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, 'Send Tax File to Agent')   We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution. @NYbarb

Update your banking information by selecting File from the lefthand menu, and follow the on-screen prompts to re-enter your correct account details.    Generally, you should wait until your original tax filing was accepted by the federal and state authorities before attempting to amend your returns. FAQ guidance: What should I know before amending my return? Here are some things to know before you begin: Make sure you really need to amend. Wait until your return has been accepted (or mailed if paper-filing). Use the same TurboTax account you used to file your original return. Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending. The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due. Any changes you make to amend your federal return will automatically be transferred over to your state return. Verify that the the federal taxes paid in box 4 on your 1099-G has been typed in correctly, and round the amount up to the nearest whole dollar value (without cents on the end) if necessary.   Is there any more detail from the IRS-related error message that you can share?
All rmd were taken, so why is there an excess accumulation?
On the Virginia section, for the questions “total paid for child and dependent care” you must enter the maximum allowed by the state ($6000 for two children).
I double checked with my return on hand, that i entered exactly how it is printed.

I forgot to include my political contribution credit on my Oregon return, so I wanted to amend it. After a few false starts, I eventually got to a screen that asked me to enter a note for why I was amending, but I didn't actually make any changes before continuing (which was probably a mistake). It then did a review and asked me to download.  I did so, but realized that nothing had been done, so I cancelled the amendment and started over. But now, it thinks I've filed an amendment, and it won't let me make any changes! If I start the amendment over and click the pencil (edit) icon for my state return, it goes straight to the review step. Has anyone encountered this?  And if so, can you suggest how to fix it? The "helpful" AI said I should delete my entire return and start over.
