Turbod tax selected the standard deduction for me even though my itemized deductions where higher.  From another thread, someone said to check the info sheet part IV for an X in take standard deduction even if less than itemized.  Ok, so I fixed that.  Frankly, I have no idea how that box got checked.   For my return, the higher itemized deduction did not change my federal taxes, but it did change my state taxes!!  This seems like a turbotax calculation error.  It almost cost me $500. In my state, Maine, you get the lesser of the state's standard deduction or the federal deduction. The federal standard deduction was below the limit and the itemized deduction was above the limit.  This should be addressed.
Okay, good to know, but what about the other account?

Hello all, Like always, I filed my taxes using TT. This year however, we had a complication with the repeal of the WEP provisions, my wife received a lump sum distribution from Social Security covering benefits that should have been paid in 2024. We told TT it should do a lump sum calculation. All it did was deduct the 2024 benefit from our 2025 tax return. It did not calculate what taxes should have been paid in 2024 had the benefit been given then, and did not add that in to our 2025 tax bill like it was supposed to.  IRS caught the error and added the money back in to our return, but the result cut my refund in half. It took me a long time to figure out what happened and I still can't get TT to do the correct calculations. It either ignores the lump sum calc or it gives me an error that says I can't use the correct amounts from my 2024 return. I tried to notify TT of this but I don't want to wait an hour on the phone to get to a live human being again. Can't insert my original case number, this platform deletes it thinking its a telephone number. Sorry.
Moral of the story:  Read every screen top to bottom.

I'm having trouble getting a question answered. Teacher Retirement System of Texas sent a 1099-R to me because I was a non spouse beneficiary for the death benefit. Box 7 is code 4 and it is not an IRA with 100% payment. When asked about the original owners birth age the following questions go into the RMD. I've called TRS twice and also asked a TT tax expert with no resolution. When I change it to reflect MY birth year I'm able to get passed it.
Thank you... My mistake but the question should be split into two questions to avoid this common mistake..... are you a us citizen living abroad?.... I only read the 1st part.. us citizen..

Having customers pay just to VIEW the individual tax forms Schedule C, 1040, Schedule A., is unacceptable.  Intuit can figure out how to let us preview the forms without - printing.  Some people actually know what they are looking at when they view their 1040 and schedules and want to see how the information was computed.  This is an unacceptable in your online platform.  I have been using turbo tax for a decade and I am not happy with the lack of this option
