I had the same problem and it has cost me HOURS! I'm furious that it hasn't been corrected in years! I am using TurboTax Deluxe, download from Amazon. It wasn't until the efiling got to the final stages before sending the State form to NY that up popped this error everyone is describing in this thread. FINALLY: For me, using my version this afternoon, I was able to e-file the state version when I entered the info from Box 1 on my 1099-R into box 16. Who knows what the results will be from NY State. Who knows if you will be able to do what I did and have it work. GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!

I am filing resident state return for MN and nonresident return for WI due to moving states mid-year. My W2 clearly states the MN vs. WI portion of my total income, but TurboTax entered a much higher amount in my MN-only state income return and I can't seem to change it?

IRS will reject if you modify any numbers on the W2 including Box 1 and other boxes with numbers. Box 14 is usually empty and that is where you can enter tips. You should be able to get your $ tips from your year end paycheck or at least make a good faith estimate. When I put my tips in Box 14 (from my last 2025 paycheck) I got a prompt/confirmation from TurboTax about it being tips then it deducted that amount from the overall taxable income...resulted in less tax

If you have children living with you since your husband left, you might consider filing separately. Make that selection as you begin your tax return and TurboTax will guide you through the questions to determine if you qualify for Head of Household.
Can a married person claim head of household filing status?
If you don't qualify you have the option of filing separately or jointly. You can also create additional TurboTax accounts to see the results as married filing separate or married filing joint. If you do not have your husbands information, it would be difficult to file jointly.
