2025 Turbotax Deluxe calculates the MD State Tax Owed (Line 21) on $81,043 of MD Adj Gross Income as $3,796. When I use the Maryland state iFile site to file my MD tax (free) instead instead of paying Intuit $20 to file for me, the MD iFile site calculates the MD tax owed as $3,797. Only a $1 difference but I did the calculation using the tables and I agree with the MD ifile site's calculation.

This charitable contribution is a Qualified Charitable Contribution (QCD)
While entering your form 1099-R, if you have entered a birth date which makes you older than 70 1/2 in the tax year, TurboTax will ask you if any portion of your distribution was transferred to charity. Answer Yes to that question and you can then enter the amount transferred to charity.
The code in box 7 of form 1099-R must be 7 and the box IRA/SEP/SIMPLE must be checked.
TurboTax will then reduce the taxable amount by the amount transferred to charity.

Thank you! This was so frustrating, and the TT desktop software was useless. Why it doesn't do the calculation (all the data is there!) for you and at least suggest checking one or the other based on which one is advantageous is beyond me! It's buried deep in the worksheet labyrinth and the software simply takes last year's selection and copies it over, didn't even bring it up in the interview in step by step. Just assumed my tax situation is unchanged year to year. Thank you again for saving me the $60 to have a TT 'expert' uncover the archaic programming oversight in their software.

TurboTax needs to know the value of all your IRA accounts at year end when you take a distribution or convert part of your IRA to a Roth IRA. This is in order to calculate the basis of the distributed or converted part by applying the pro rata rule.
When your Traditional IRA has basis (from the nondeductible contributions) as reported on form 8606, you have to apply a prorated amount of basis to the distributed or converted amount.
Please read this IRS document for more information.

Hello, Thank you for your notes. I haven't paid for Turbotax yet because I need to wait for several months before I can file my tax. If I proceed to continue and pay, my tax return will be filed right away - is this right? I went to "Print center" under Tax tools and "Tax returns and docs" under Home, but there is no PDF with instruction sheet that provide information on any scheduled payment. I could download the form 4868, but there is no information on scheduled payment in the form. Thank you.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

This answer assumes you are using Online TurboTax and that you have not yet filed your return. If you have already filed, we can tell you how to print/download a PDF. For seniors age 65 and older and meet the other qualifications for the new Enhanced Senior Deduction, TurboTax automatically fills out Schedule 1-A in the background and then enters the amount of the deduction on the Form 1040, Line 13b. It is not part of the standard deduction--it is a completely separate deduction on its own line. If you are "married filing jointly" and both qualify, then you both get the new deduction. If you are "married filing separately", however, you are not eligible. Single filers, HOH filers, and qualifying surviving spouse, if they otherwise qualify, are eligible. You appear to be using Online TurboTax--at least that is what a tag shows underneath your question above. If you are still preparing your online return, and want to verify that you received that new senior deduction, here's how you can preview the Form 1040 and confirm you are getting the enhanced senior deduction. If you already printed out a copy of your return, you can view the Form 1040, Line 13b and Schedule 1-A where it was calculated. If still preparing your online return, here's how to preview it: With your return open go to the left column menu, and click on TAX TOOLS, then subtab TOOLS. In the Tools window choose "View Tax Summary." On that Tax Summary screen you should see that you are getting "Additional Deductions (Schedule 1-A)." Then, while still on that Tax Summary screen, you can further verify it by going over to the left column menu and under Federal clicking on "Preview my 1040." That opens up the Form 1040 Worksheet. Scroll down to Line 13b, and the figure there includes the enhanced senior deduction from the Schedule 1-A. And while you are there, you should see your standard (or itemized) deduction on Line 12e.
