FIrst of all, thank you for your explanation of this.  I'm currently working through this identical issue.      As a bit of a follow up,  I'm not sure you provided this information or not, but, how do you apply for a refund of the withholdings?   I'd think TurboTax would list that as an option and allow us to click a button, and it would fill out the information.   But I'm not seeing this.    Thank you.
I just updated again this morning and the new update seems to have fixed the problem. The return was successfully sent.

I know this post is almost 1 year old. I'm in exactly same situation right now. Box 15 (state) has TX in it but no employer ID. Box 16 (state wages, tips etc) has the same numbers as box 1 (wages, tips, other comp). Box 17 (state income tax) is empty because there is none in TX.   The company who produce this W2 is dumb to fill them out when there's no state income tax in TX. Those 3 boxes should be empty on the W2. Turbotax keeps flagging that W2. It needs an employer ID or else it is invalid and I won't be able to file electronically. It stops flagging when I remove them entirely (ie. delete entries in box 15, 16, 17) and proceed. I have not filed it yet. I hope there won't be any problems when I submit it electronically.

As you walk through the steps of entering the 1099-NEC, you will be given options of what the income is for.  Select Hobby income and this will then a checkmark on your 1099-NEC worksheet will be placed in the Other Income Box so it won't be reported as self-employment income.  It will then be reported on Schedule 1 line 8z as Non Employee Compensation from 1099-NEC. Marking the hobby box does not make it hobby income, it just means it was not self-employment income or any of the other types of income listed there.

It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2025" file that is experiencing this issue for further testing.   You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information.  If you would like to do this, please follow these instructions:    In TurboTax Online, open your return, go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.  Then select Tools below Tax Tools. A window will pop up which says Tools Center. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number. You may wish to snap a screenshot to post instead of the actual number. Reply to this thread with your Token number (including the dash) and tag (@) the Expert requesting the token from you. Please include any States that are part of your return - this is VERY important. If you are using TurboTax for Desktop, go to Online in the top menu, then choose "Send Tax File to Agent."   We will then be able to see the same experience you are having and possibly forward to our tech team for investigation.   @7t9r743V

You are entering this from a 1099-B I assume. Are you importing the information or entering it yourself.? I wonder if you are entering this in the wrong place. I see 9 options when I am entering so the fact that you only have 4 options makes me thing you are not in the right area. Can you tell me what type of form you have and where you are entering this?
A charitable cash donation when using the Standard Deduction will be available on the 2026 tax return to be filed next year.  It is not available on the 2025 federal tax return.

These are the IRS rules for claiming a dependent. He may qualify as a Qualifying Child; however, if he isn't a Qualifying Child, he could be a Qualifying Relative.   DoninGA asked very good questions. TurboTax pricing is based on the complexity of the tax situation and the specific IRS forms required to file an accurate return, rather than the size of the final refund.   Because you earned income as an Uber driver, you are classified by the IRS as a self-employed business owner. This requires the inclusion of Schedule C to report your business income and expenses, as well as Schedule SE to calculate self-employment taxes. These specialized forms are not supported by the 'Free Edition,' which is restricted to simple W-2 returns.

TurboTax carries the information forward on the IRA Information Worksheet, so there should be no need to reenter basis information.   A permissible contribution made directly to a Roth IRA is not reportable on Form 8606.  TurboTax does add this to Roth IRA contribution basis maintained on it's IRA Information Worksheet.   Unless a new nondeductible traditional IRA contribution is made, a distribution is made from a traditional IRA when you have basis in nondeductible traditional IRA contributions, Part I of Form 8606 is not to be prepared or filed.  The only other reasons that Form 8606 would be filed is if you did a Roth conversion (Part II) or you received a nonqualified distribution from a Roth IRA (Part III).
The Premier version (includes Investments and Rental Property) of TurboTax includes Form 5329-T.
