Thank you for your response.   But, my box 1 (gross amount) and box 2 (taxable amount) have different numbers in them (and have for every year that we got SS).  Doesn't that mean I should answer "NO" to the question about paying tax on the total amount?   DG

The IRS has already released form 4562 for Schedule E and my friend has already been able to file her taxes so I do not understand why Turbo Tax does not have the form ready for us to file our taxes.  As per google, turbotax will not have this form available for Schedule E until after February 13, 2026 - which is a large window.  Are there any updates on when this form is going to be available so I can file my taxes?

Yeah I've been on Turbotax 15 years but I am looking for a competitor, been waiting on this update since January and Turbo keeps missing its own deadlines to literally update a form on a software I've already paid for.
Feb 13 is here, and it doesn't work. This is truly shoddy work - it's tax filing season and I am paying for fully functional tax filing software, not some half baked guesswork.

@user17709788658    Yep...return to the initial question, and do as @DoninGA  has indicated.   A couple of us had asked a Moderator to look into having the sentence changed to include box 2a in that YES statement...just as it did last year, but no action has been taken by the software folks yet.   If you did attempt to enter some $$ into either the General or Simplified calc methods, you might have to delete the 1099-R form entirely, and start over.

Hello, Fellow Tax Filing Fanatics!  Two topics.  (1) From what I have been reading, it looks like today is "E Day" when TT will release its long-awaited update to Schedule E and related rental form(s) - as mentioned in my first post, we sold our rental in 2025, so this overdue update is giving me ulcers.  Appreciated the TT note stating that recent IRS changes and a reduced IRS workforce have slowed TT down this year.  (2) Second topic - I am experiencing a minor, but annoying, glitch (technical term!) with the step-by-step option - in the Charitable/Charity section, in the 2025 column next to 2024, it says 'available now' versus the total amount. In forms view, everything is correct.  In the 30+ years I have used TT, I have never had this series of problems this late in time.  I just hope that TT corrects this too.  Glitches are not reassuring.  Thank you, Mark
Anyway around the hardcoded date to download my 1099-B? Each year TT Desktop hard codes a date that I can import my 1099-B. It's always ready early, but TT will not let me import until the future date.

I submitted both Federal and State tax electronically, which later on got rejected for some reason. I wanted to fix the issue and resubmit but came to know that the file is not there. I made sure to hit save button before closing. At this point I do not know how to retrieve and fix the errors. I paid $25 to submit state efile and not sure what would happen to it, if I chose to resubmit returns via mail this time.

Go back and edit your Form 1099-R.  After completing the entry of the 1099-R there are a series of screens.    On the screen Annuity information you are asked For the years you received these distributions, was the total amount shown in the form the amount you paid tax on?  If you answered NO, the following screen asks about the General Rule or the Simplified method.  Answer YES to question so you will not be required to select either the General Rule or the Simplified method.
Good morning and I didn’t get a update this morning
Did anyone get an update this morning? I wasn’t expecting mine to update until next week but I’ve seen a few update with 3/2 DDD
Last year I used this option to pay with my refund but now I cannot process my return if selecting this method

We enter info from a 1099-R.  The taxable amount (box 2) is not the same as the gross amount (box 1).  Instead of computing the tax, TT asks how we computed the tax in prior years.  We don't have a clue.  TT has computed the tax for every year for which we have been receiving a pension.  So, TT knows the answer.  In fact we buy TT so that we don't have to know how to figure the tax.  How do we answer the question?  TT wants us to choose between "General rule" and "Simplified method".  We certainly don't know how TT did it last year (or any year).   DG
When I click on the circled question at the end of an interview question, I get an empty blank white dialog box.  How can I get the text information that should be there?

The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/19/2026   You will have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject your filed federal tax return. If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again. If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return. Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS. See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a current year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-curr...

Taxes owed can never be paid from a tax refund.  If you are seeing this on the TurboTax web page it is only a math procedure to show the total money you will receive.   How you selected to pay the state taxes owed has not changed. Your federal tax refund has not changed.   If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
