You have a screenshot! It shows your FMV at a specific point in time. This was a forced liquidation. Your value before is shown - proven versus the proceeds of what you received to show a capital loss.   Let's make a log: Cost Basis - The GSUD is stable and you don't need a log to prove xGSUD =$x. Your screenshot is your proof. Date acquired will be the date you deposited into Celsius (or estimate) Date sold - use the bankruptcy date or when you received the BTC Proceeds - FMV of the BTC on the day you received it   If the IRS asks for more:  bank statements showing the outgo of funds emails: statements, reward, balance - shows you actually were the owner   Two final thoughts: 1. Ionic digital stock has a separate basis - if you received it. 2. If you decide to mail the 8453, it may go a long way to include a brief statement explaining the records were lost due to the Celsius bankruptcy and that you used available data to reconstruct the basis in good faith.

Thanks for the answer. I'm trying to enter it on my schedule E but I'm at a part where Turbotax is asking me if I purchased the property or acquired it in a different way. If I say a different way, the options are that I inherited it, it was a gift, or it was a like kind exchange, or Other. I am planning to mark Other, but this still doesn't feel quite right to me since it still seems to imply that I own the property, when actually I'm a renter here. Any advice?

To all: I will try to refile Saturday Feb 14th and update this thread   For context my fiancé (1099 employee) and myself (W2 employee) own the house together but only I am claiming the tax credit and followed the prompts on TT software to indicate this. I did see in a 2024 Reddit post that someone with this exact situation had this same issue with Turbo Tax - hoping thats not a repeat.   As far as my QMID's they are major brands - my heat pump is Goodman/Amana/Daiken I also replaced an exterior door with a major brand sold at Home Depot - on the Q&A for that product on Home Depot's website, someone got a reply from the manufacturer asking about their QMID and the manufacturer responded and provided it - so seemingly both of my QMIDs shouldnt be the issue
where do i put my overtime

I hope you have resolve the issue.   In case you are still having the problem follow next steps:   double check that the billing address matches the one on your return. Small differences can lead to a rejection. Make sure you entered the correct debit card number, expiration date, and security code. You can also change your payment method (credit card instead). Otherwise, contact one of our tax representative for further assistance:  Turbo Tax Customer Service

I am using desktop turbotax deluxe. When I try to import a doccument, it opens a tab on my browser and after logging in, I get a message that the import was successful and to return to Turbo tax. However the turbotax screen still shows two options: skip import or continue. If I hit continue, it goes into a loop, opening a tab again and asking me to log in. If I hit skip, those documents don't show up   Super frustrating :(

2 days ago I was on the phone with Turbo Tax support for 45 minutes. Same issue, same problem regarding Canadian Retirement info you can't get past. She had me DELETE my 1099-R's, skip ahead to Federal Review and it showed no errors. She had me then go back and reenter my 1099-R's and everything worked fine the rest the way. The Canadian Retirement was gone and never reappeared.

When you start on 'payment' you're going to a different 'billing' server.  The 'hit a snag' message usually indicates a bad connection.  Try closing the program, clear your  Cache and Cookies and retry.  Make sure the card you're using matches the one in your Intuit account.   If you still can't make payment through the program, you can pay by phone. Use 'billing' as the reason for your call.  You'll get a confirmation code to enter as proof of payment.   @Kailuaabb

I'm trying to electronically file our company's federal and state returns. but am being blocked by TurboTax. It throws a pop-up window that states: "Tax Year 2025 transmissions are not available.  TurboTax Business is not ready to process Tax Year 2025 for this return." Has anyone had a similar experience? And does anyone know when TurboTax Business will be able to file returns? Thanks!
