If your tax refund was kept for a debt you do not believe you owe, it sounds like the IRS or a state agency initiated a "refund offset" for federal tax, state tax, student loans, or child support. You will have to dispute the debt directly with the agency listed on the offset notice,
You should contact the Social Security Administration, if that is the Agency listed on the notice, to ask for verification of the debt and to dispute the debt if it is not yours.
To resolve a tax refund offset by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for an overpayment, you can call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) to speak to a representative. You can also visit your local Social Security Field Office. You may be able to Request a Reconsideration (if you disagree) using Form SSA-561 or a waiver (if you cannot afford repayment) using form SSA-632-BK.
Click here Request for Waiver (Form SSA-632-BK) to prove you were not overpaid. The Social Security Administration (SSA) is required to send notice before collecting.

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:
Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.
Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.
Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.
Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."
Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.
Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

Start a new account using a different email, account and user ID, because using an old account that was used for a past year joint return will cause all kinds of errors for you.
HOW TO START A NEW RETURN TO FILE MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY
When you enter your own information in My Info, you have to answer the question "Were you married?" If you click the button for Married, then a drop down will appear that asks, "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?” Your answer needs to be NO. Then it will ask for information about your spouse—-their name and SSN which you must enter. EACH spouse has to file their own separate return. And you have to follow all of the rules which include that if one of you enters itemized deductions, the other one must also itemize. Or…you both use standard deduction. If you are in a community property state there are additional rules and more information to enter.
If I am filing a separate return why do I have to list my spouse’s information on my return?
Even if you file separate returns (the worst way to file) you each have to list each other's SSN's and some other information on your own tax return. The IRS can then cross check to make sure you are not "double dipping" for itemized deductions, dependents, etc.
If you are in a community property state, there is more information that will be needed.
Community property states: AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/marriage/five-tax-tips-for-community-property-states/L4jG7cq7Z
Why do you want to file separate returns?---that is usually the worst way to file.
If you were legally married at the end of 2025 your filing choices are married filing jointly or married filing separately when you prepare your 2025 return.
Married Filing Jointly is usually better, even if one spouse had little or no income. When you file a joint return, you and your spouse will get the married filing jointly standard deduction of $31,500 (+ $1600 for each spouse 65 or older) for 2025. You are eligible for more credits including education credits, earned income credit, child and dependent care credit, and a larger income limit to receive the child tax credit.
If you choose to file married filing separately, both spouses have to file the same way—either you both itemize or you both use standard deduction. Your tax rate will be higher than on a joint return.
Some of the disadvantages of filing separately include:
You cannot get earned income credit,
You cannot get education credits or deductions for student loan interest.
You cannot get the childcare credit
You have a lower amount of income on which to base the refundable additional child tax credit
85% of your Social Security benefits will be taxable even with no other income
The amount you can contribute to a retirement account will be limited.
Capital loss deduction is less than if you file jointly
You cannot get the $6000 senior deduction
You cannot get the deductions for overtime or tips
If you live in a community property state, you will be required to provide additional information regarding your spouse’s income. ( Community property states: AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI) and your returns become very complicated.
If you are using online TurboTax to prepare your returns, you will need to prepare two separate returns and pay twice since with online, you get one return per fee.

First, check to see if you signed up for the TurboTax Refund Advance. You can look in a few specific places in your account or your email.
Check Your TurboTax Order Details
On the Tax Home page, scroll down to the section for "Your tax returns & documents."
Select View Order Details.
Look for "Refund Advance" or "Credit Karma Money" listed under your payment and refund methods.
If it’s not there, you likely selected a standard direct deposit or a different refund option.
Look for Confirmation Emails
If you applied, you should have received automated emails from TurboTax and its partners.
From TurboTax: Search for an email confirming your "Refund Selection."
From Credit Karma: If you were approved, Credit Karma sends an email when the funds are deposited into your Credit Karma Money Spend account.
From WebBank: If your application was denied, you will receive an email from WebBank (the lender) explaining the reason for the decline.
Check Your Credit Karma Money Account
Because the Refund Advance is deposited into a Credit Karma Money™ Spend account, checking that account is the fastest way to see if the loan was processed.
Log in to your Credit Karma account.
Navigate to the Money tab.
If you see a pending or completed deposit for a portion of your refund (typically between $250 and $4,000) shortly after the IRS accepted your return, that is your Refund Advance.
Review Your Tax Return Summary
You can also find clues on your actual tax forms:
Open your 2025 return in TurboTax
Go to the Tax Tools menu on the left
Select Print Center
View your Federal Information Worksheet
Look at the "Direct Deposit" section
If you signed up for the advance, the bank account listed will be the MVB Bank account associated with Credit Karma, rather than your personal bank account.

Long story short: I have not lived with my since spouce April 2025, although we're not divorced. She therefore filed HoH since she have the kids more than 50%, and so far I think it's all on par with guidelines. She have an apartment in her name and utilities. Here's where the twist comes in. I do not have anything in my name, as I am an immigrant and staying with my sponsor until I can go back home. Twist number 2 is that my spouse and the children are still on that address as well, and she forgot to mention that while doing her taxes. Is the lease and her utilities enough if they decide to audit her, or is it better to just amend as soon as the money hits ( as according to IRS instructions )? I have tried to call IRS and ask, but I can't get through the automatic responses and actually get to talk to someone

What tax year are you asking about? Are you asking about 2024? If your 2024 return was not filed, it can still be filed now,, but it must be filed by mail. E-filing is permanently closed for 2024 returns. If your niece prepared a 2024 return but did not finish it or e-file it, it can only be accessed using the account and user ID she used to prepare it.
You are going to need to sort this out with your niece.
You will be able to access the 2024 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it. But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.
Start a 2025 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.
Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2024 returns is now permanently closed.
Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2024 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.

If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.
They are available from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time Monday - Friday

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe. Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Here's another option we've shared:
Because the special New York Inflation Refund is not a regular tax refund but a special payment that is taxable at the Federal level, you can report it instead in Other Reportable Income. In TurboTax Online:
From the left menu, go to Federal and select the first tab, Wages & Income
Add more income by scrolling down to the last option, Less Common Income, and Show more
Scroll down to the last option, Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C and Start
Choose the last option, Other reportable income and Start and Yes
Enter the applicable description and amount and Continue
If you need to subtract an item of income from your New York return that was included in your Federal return income, you can enter that adjustment in TurboTax Online at the screen in your New York return labeled "Changes to Federal Income".
Look under Other New York Adjustments to Federal Income, and select Start next to Other changes (adjustments) to your federal income to make the subtraction entry.

Yes, long term disability payments paid by your California employer is considered California source income if they are based on work performed in California. You would have to report to California if you meet the threshold. To avoid being double-taxed on the same income, you can claim a credit for the taxes paid on that income in Arizona on your California state tax return*.
*California and Arizona are reverse credit states. You will prepare your Arizona state tax first, then you can add the credit for taxes paid to another state on your California tax return.

You might see this error when the program tries to match your total distribution with the earnings and basis on your Form. This is usually because of small rounding differences.
To fix this, try to round off cents to whole dollar. When rounding, drop anything under 50 cents and raise amounts of 50 cents or more to the next dollar. For ex. $2.22 becomes $2 and $2.62 becomes $3.
When adding two or more amounts for a line, count the cents, then round the total at the end.
