The number is different from the standard deduction, but also different from the number on Schedule A. I don’t know where it’s coming up with the number I see on my 1040, which is why I posted.

There are four choices for "payment type" for the NYS 1099-G inflation refund check received in 2025.  None are applicable for type of government payment: (1) business or farm tax refund  (2) agricultural program payment  (3) federal disaster payment  (4)  market gain on CCC loans.  None of these are applicable.  What to do?
That was also my understanding - thanks for asking them to clarify!
The Amend 2024 Return button is no longer available to me. I would have to essentially restart my 2024 taxes if I move to the desktop version which I would like to avoid.

There are many reasons why you may be showing a smaller refund than expected.  Here are some things to review that may help you find out why.   Double-check your entries for any typos.  Particularly in the Income and withholding fields. Double-check your filing status, and how to answered the interview questions Use the tax tools tab to preview your return and see if any number sticks out and is causing the small refund. If you qualified for certain credits in previous years, check if you qualified for those in the current year. Compare your return to the previous year and look over the differences.   Here's a link that may help with verifying the results on your return; Tax Calculator 2025

@ dorito1213  ADDENDUM:   Looks like @ DoninGA and I were answering at the same time.  He left additional info above about a free mobile app offer if you didn't use TurboTax last year.   I'm not familiar with the mobile app, so I'm not familiar with that offer.  If that offer doesn't apply to you, you may still be able to downgrade as I explain below.   ***************************** Original comment: My instructions above were all for Online TurboTax, which mobile app users can also access.   But it's not necessary since I now know you ended up in Premium for some reason, which is the top level, and mainly for people with investment gains/losses, Schedule E, or Schedule C self-employed.    Whenever someone is in a paid edition, there is also a fee for the state return.     You can try downgrading to Free Edition, but if you encounter something that Free Edition can't handle, it will ask you to upgrade.      NOTE:  TurboTax Free Edition is for customers who are filing simple Form 1040 Returns only (no additional forms or schedules except for Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Student Loan Interest).  If Schedules 1,2, or 3 are required, it will ask you to upgrade.   FAQ:  How do I downgrade to a different Online TurboTax product? https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/change-service-level/downgrade-lower-priced-version-turbotax-online/L2IDaMvkt_US_en_US

@dorito1213 The filing is free when using the mobile app and you did Not file with TurboTax for tax year 2024. Otherwise, if your tax return has tax data that is not supported by the TurboTax Free online editions then you will have to upgrade to either the Deluxe or Premium online edition.  The state program when using either Deluxe or Premium is an additional $39.   If you have entered any type of investment income, rental or royalty income, a Schedule K-1, or self-employment income and expenses using a Form 1099-MISC or Form 1099-NEC you would be required to use the Premium edition.

Yes, you can summarize your investment transactions by separating them into short-term and long-term holdings based on the duration you owned the investments. This summary should be kept with your tax records in case the IRS requests it.   If you are unable to attach a PDF of your summarized transactions when e-filing your tax return, you must mail your statements along with Form 8453 to the following address three days after the return has been filed:   Internal Revenue Service Attn: Shipping and Receiving, 0254 Receipt and Control Branch Austin, TX 73344-0254
