It's still not working. As I've mentioned previously, there is an interview question for condo or coop (corresponding to line 32b of Form 5695), but the interview question for line 32a (joint occupants; my situation) is missing. Recent updates have not fixed this for the online version.

I was given a stock option grant 10 years ago for helping a former colleague start up a business. I was never an employee of the company and provided advice on request and did some research to help them launch the business. I helped them periodically over a 4 - 6 month period. I exercised the options last year and received a 1099-NEC. How should I enter this information into Turbo Tax Deluxe? Thanks for your help. Andy

I was also triple charged on February 22, 2026. Typically every year turbo tax double charges one state return and every year there are excuses and no resolve and no refund. This year the first return filed for my daughter who moved to another state had two states to file on her return. One state should have been free and the other state $25. Unfortunately, the software itself has a glitch that automatically makes that impossible. 1) You get to the point in the program and enter banking information, system checks return and moves to credit card entry. Complete and the form and amount looks correct, one state free and one state $20 discounted from $25. Then I click enter and the software does another check before actually filing and asks again for credit card information, which I enter and this time I am charged $20 twice. Called for TurboTax assistance and 15 minutes of an incredibly stupid AI app giving me ridiculous remedies and sending text of garbage. Finally, I get a person who tells me they use 3rd party app. She was helpful with one software issue and very pleasant, prompting me to give her a very good and in that matter deserved review. However, she was not familiar with or helpful with the change to COGS or with billing problems. All her advice, as well as online AI turned out to be outdated and website pages turned off and no longer available. Finally, Co-Pilot gave back with information that Intuit TurboTax has purposefully turned off all contact information to resolve overbilling issues. The software has a build-in feature to double charge and if you have two states triple bill for the first return. So, my acceptance in all prior years to let the one state double bill go, only served to embolden TurboTax to continue the overbilling practice. The recent TurboTax lawsuit was not for this overbilling issue, so there is at this time no resolve at this time and no way to get a letter, text, email, or call to a human that will resolve this issue. I paid a total of $80 for one state that is an overcharge of $60 for one state. Think about that when prices are already crushing most US citizens at the grocery store, for housing, and other purchased goods. Our software providers are also ripping us off. Intuit seems to have forgotten they need customers to purchase their product to stay in business. There are lots of other tax preparation software packages to use. I would have used any one of several that I have used in the past, but I have this automatically billed subscription to Home and Business, so that is what I used. But this should be the last year, it is time to do my taxes with any one of the competitors software. HR Block has one that works exactly the same, but there are many tax preparation software packages from desktop to online to choose from. If you are having the same problem and looking for a solution, at this point I think the only solution is to simply move on to a better company offering a better software that is not purposefully programmed to rip off the consumer.

Hi, I have an underpayment penalty on my NJ return. Turbotax is calculating the penalty incorrectly on the NJ-2210 form. As per my calculation I owe 130$ in penalty/interest, but turbotax is calculating 165. What is the best next step, should I file the return with 2210 (and wait for a refund from NJ) or without it (and wait for a bill from NJ). My NJ tax for 2025 is 4481, 2025 W2 withholding was 644. I paid 3000 estimate tax but only on 1/12/2026. My 2024 NJ tax is 4987. Based on these numbers I am calculating the NJ underpayment penalty as 130 but TT is calculating it as 165.

Thanks, I was grappling with the Form 5695 fiasco and was looking at every possible issue that might have caused my efile to be rejected several times! It’s a pretty straightforward form to complete and I have an accounting background so I wanted to cross all my “t’s” just to be sure that the a home energy audit wasn’t somehow now needed. I saw that the Form 5695 was a problem last year. It is very frustrating to have to deal with this again this year. I am expecting a refund and mailing in my return seems like that’s far riskier than waiting until Turbo Tax and the IRS to resolve this problem so that we can all efile our returns. After all, it is in their interest to do so! Hey, Turbo Tax, if you are reading this community posting, you might want to consider refunding customers their efiling fee!!

The 1040X for 2025 just became available.
Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

It's not a matter of not getting deductions. TurboTax is not correctly implementing the calculations for Form PIT-UND. The instructions disagree with Delaware instructions for filling out the form.

But if they have a Code (1 or 2 capital letters) and amount you need to enter it. Don't confuse the lowercase letters a-d with the uppercase Codes A, B, C, D, DD, etc. The lowercase a-d are just part of the box label. You don't enter them. You can enter the Code and Amount in any box 12. If you have more than 4 Codes you can add more rows +add a row. Are you having trouble entering a code and amou nt?

The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)
The deduction is not on the same line as your standard deduction. It is shown separately.on line 13b.
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
(The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)
The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.

If you are not getting the senior deduction it is because
Your date of birth in MY INFO shows that you were not 65 by the end of 2025
Your income is too high
You are filing married filing separately

That appears to be correct. One (and so far only one) user says he's seen it. But I've yet to find it.
Q. How can I remove that adjustment so that I am not paying tax on my 529 withdrawal?
A. You can check the student information worksheet. You can manually change it there (line 17). Make the change in the first column, on the left.
But, better yet, just delete the 1099-Q.
The 1099-Q (and 1098-T) is only an informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your (or your student's) tax return. The interview is complicated and it's easy to make mistakes. Avoid it if you can and you probably can.
You can just not report the 1099-Q, at all, if your student-beneficiary has sufficient educational expenses, including room & board (even if he lives at home) to cover the distribution. When the box 1 amount on form 1099-Q is fully covered by expenses, TurboTax will enter nothing about the 1099-Q on the actual tax forms. But, it will prepare a 1099-Q worksheet for your records (you don’t need it). You would still have to do the math to see if there were enough expenses left over for you to claim the tuition credit. You also cannot count expenses that were paid by tax free scholarships.
References:
On form 1099-Q, instructions to the recipient reads: "Nontaxable distributions from CESAs and QTPs are not required to be reported on your income tax return. You must determine the taxability of any distribution."
IRS Pub 970 states: “Generally, distributions are tax free if they aren't more than the beneficiary's AQEE for the year. Don't report tax-free distributions (including qualifying rollovers) on your tax return”.
"IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education states: If the entire 1099-Q went to qualified expenses, room and board, tuition, etc; then, you do not need to enter the form."
