I have worked through the MN on both the online and desktop versions trying to figure out the problem. I am able to get the credit. I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. Please notify me by adding @AmyC to your response. If I discover a solution, I will reply. Otherwise, it will be moved on to an investigation team. You can send a token to me by following the directions below: TurboTax Online: Sign into your online account. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.” This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response. TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions: Open your return. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

I sent my federal tax return efile yesterday. I received the following errors below. I reviewed the form 5695 and I am seeing that I have entered all the information correctly, in the correct format, capitalizations, and amounts. I deleted and re-entered the data as well. I send a second efile and received the same error. I did confirm the QMID on the federal site, and I also confirm the format of the QMID was enter correctly. Please advise. Thank you. If the IRS rejected your e-filed tax return for the 2024 AGI, there is a good possibility that the IRS does not have your AGI in their database. Enter a 0 (zero) for the 2024 AGI and e-file again.

What self-employment expenses can I deduct?
Taxpayers may be able to claim a deduction for qualified tips paid to them in 2025 that are included on Form W-2, Form 1099-NEC, Form 1099-MISC, Form 1099-K, or reported directly by them on Form 4137. From the IRS

dmertz said no, ...it's safe to just say that the entire amount is RMD. What do you mean it taxes you more than the distribution? For Tax. You still have to enter the whole gross amount (before taxes were withheld) with your other income to figure out the total tax (and it may put you into a higher tax bracket and can reduce any credits) and then the withholding is subtracted from the total tax to figure your refund or tax due. The Gross amount shows up on 1040 line 4a or 5a and the taxable amount on 4b/5b. The withholding will show up on 1040 line 25b.

I know this is not correct, but it will give you an idea of what your tax credit should be.
Room and board (R&B)are not qualified expenses for an Education/Tuition tax credit. Entering R&B as books will give you a false indication of what your tax credit will be.
The only reason you enter R&B is to offset a 529/ESA plan distribution. There is a separate entry for R&B (in the scholarship interview) when you want to allocate some of the scholarship to R&B (to free up tuition and books for the tax credit).

Since an 1120S return is usually prepared with a CD or Download, your tax file and PDF copies of your return will be on the computer where the return was prepared. The default location would be Documents > TurboTax.
If you prepared your return with TurboTax Live online, you should be able to access it with your same Sign In credentials. Here's more info on Account Recovery.

It's a common misunderstanding that when you use the sales tax tables you can add the tax on "major purchases" to the amount from the tables. This misunderstanding is perpetuated by TurboTax's use of the term "major purchases." What you are allowed to add, according to IRS rules, is the tax on "specified items." The specified items are those listed by DawnC above.

Your fee for using TurboTax is not based on the amount of your refund. If your return required the use of any extra forms or schedules beyond Form 1040 then you would have to pay even if instead of a refund, you owed money to the IRS.
That being said, look and see what you are paying for and remove it if you can.

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY? I WANT THE FREE EDITION
The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now. Thanks to the tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's. Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition. Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules. If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any extra forms or schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version and if you are watching the screens carefully you are alerted to the upgrade.
TurboTax Online: Important Details about Filing Simple Form 1040 Returns
If you have a simple Form 1040 return only (no forms or schedules except as needed to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or student loan interest), you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic at the listed price. Roughly 37% of taxpayers are eligible.
Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity):
W-2 income
Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B
IRS standard deduction
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
Child Tax Credit (CTC)
Student loan interest deduction
Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions
Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return:
Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions
Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G
Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers)
Stock sales (including crypto investments)
Income from rental property or property sales
Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules

I tried using the link but it only shows how to add a 1095A (which I already did). The issue is that TurboTax is not auto generating the 8692 even with all other info inputted. I tried the $1 trick and it said I owed funds and it would that it would not match my wife's as the amounts need to match to avoid any issues with the IRS. Going to try removing the 1095A and see if that works..

When trying to calculate the tax on my backdoor Roth from a non-deductible traditional IRA contribution, TurboTax Premier Online is failing to populate on line 6 of the Form 8606 the value of my traditional IRAs as of December 31, 2025. My prior year basis is correct on the worksheet, as it my contribution, but when I type the value of my traditional IRAs when going through the questions, it shows up blank in the worksheet for Form 8606 and says the entire backdoor Roth is deductible - which I know for a fact it is not. Unfortunately it looks like the software does not allow manual override, so is this something others have experienced or has TurboTax said they will correct it?
