I took an early withdraw from my traditional IRA to pay for my kids college tuition.  Turbo tax has a place for the 1099-R but in 2025 it is NOT asking my if I took the distribution for education so I'm getting hit with a penalty.  The code on the 1099 is 1 but there should be an exception rule for the college tuition exception.  It asks for Rollover information and some other things but Nothing on education expenses.
New York State does require a New York State ID or an out-of-state ID to electronically file your return. For more information you can refer to this article.

Thanks for replying. It is very helpful. When looking over tax returns (1040), what line is for itemized and for standard deduction. There is a rectangular box with the standard deduction amounts that correlate with a line -say line 12- and on that line is the standard deduction amount that I claimed. I have always claimed the standard deduction, but you mention line 5b...is that for itemized deductions?
Thanks  The entry shows "revisit" When I select revisit, nothing happens and the prior view opens. There is no page to enter the SSA information.

Hi,   The problem I am having is that I have itemized my Federal return using some of my gambling losses, which exceeds the standard deduction, however it didn't transfer over to the NYS return.  The NYS is set to using the standard deduction and I can't change it to itemized.  How do I fix this so that I can itemize my state return as well.

I cannot find that option that existed for the past 15 years.

Hello! I was surprised to find out that I should not have paid child medial bills with my HSA account in 2025 (and start of 2026).  For 2025 taxes, my child is no longer a tax dependent .    My plan is to refund the amount of total 2025 child HSA payments (as a mistaken distribution) back to my HSA before filing my 2025 taxes. Then print out the matching 2025 bills and give that to my child so they can submit them to their HSA sometime in the future.  I'll do same for 2026 mistaken payments.    I expect that there will be no tax impact for this mistake that I am fixing.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-can-t-i-deduct-my-turbotax-fees-from-my-refund/00/25621   If your refund is enough to cover your TurboTax fees PLUS the extra “refund processing” fee of $40 ($45 in CA) and your forms are ready then when you are in the FILE section you can choose to have your fees deducted from your federal refund by a third party bank, who will take out your fees and send you the rest of your refund after the IRS issues the refund.    Please make note that if your refund takes too long to arrive (IRS delays, etc.) then you will also be agreeing that the TurboTax fees can be extracted from your bank account even before your refund is issued by the IRS.  This comes as an unpleasant shock to many people every year.      If you can possibly pay your fees upfront using a debit or credit card, it will save you that extra fee and even more importantly, the possible aggravation and delays that are often the result of poor handling/poor customer service by that third party bank.  We see way too many instances where refunds are delayed for months when users choose refund processing. There have been lots of complaints; there are a number of things that can go wrong when you use refund processing.  I suggest avoiding that situation if at all possible.     And....you can never pay state tax due from a federal refund, so do not expect that.   The state tax due has to be paid directly to your state.     What is Refund Processing Service?     How can I see my TurboTax  fees?      https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k         Please see these links for form availability dates Federal form availability   Forms availability
