No.  You can only deduct the premium portion of your OT.  So, if your pay rate is $20 per hour, and your OT is $30 per hour,  you can only deduct the $10 premium pay ($30-$20).     So it sounds like your employer broke this down for your properly on your W-2 and that is the amount you can deduct.  To qualify for the No Tax on Overtime Deduction the following must apply: You must be a non-exempt employee eligible for Overtime under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act The Overtime must be on hours worked OVER 40 hours.  (if you live in a state where OT pay is required after 8 hours, this does not apply) Overtime must be paid at more than your regular hourly rate.   Only the amount that is over your regular hourly rate is deductible.  For example,  If you make $30 per hour and are paid OT at $45 an hour, you can only deduct $15 per hour as overtime deduction. Can you help me look into this more? I am seeing this question from several people, but for me to look into it more, I have to provide additional information.    I need to confirm you applied for and was approved for the Refund Advance. Can you send me a screenshot of two things?    1. Your order details shows Refund Advance under your refund method. 2. An email showing you were approved from Credit Karma   Here is how to find those things:   Check Your TurboTax Order Details On the Tax Home page, scroll down to the section for "Your tax returns & documents." Select View Order Details. Look for "Refund Advance" or "Credit Karma Money" listed under your payment and refund methods.  If it’s not there, you likely selected a standard direct deposit or a different refund option.   Look for Confirmation Emails If you applied, you should have received automated emails from TurboTax and its partners. From TurboTax: Search for an email confirming your "Refund Selection." From Credit Karma: If you were approved, Credit Karma sends an email when the funds are deposited into your Credit Karma Money Spend account. From WebBank: If your application was denied, you will receive an email from WebBank (the lender) explaining the reason for the decline.   If you can't find those things, you could send me either of these items:   Check Your Credit Karma Money Account Because the Refund Advance is deposited into a Credit Karma Money™ Spend account, checking that account is the fastest way to see if the loan was processed. Log in to your Credit Karma account. Navigate to the Money tab. If you see a pending or completed deposit for a portion of your refund (typically between $250 and $4,000) shortly after the IRS accepted your return, that is your Refund Advance.   Review Your Tax Return Summary You can also find clues on your actual tax forms: Open your 2025 return in TurboTax Go to the Tax Tools menu on the left Select Print Center View your Federal Information Worksheet Look at the "Direct Deposit" section If you signed up for the advance, the bank account listed will be the MVB Bank account associated with Credit Karma, rather than your personal bank account.

Roughly 37% of taxpayers are eligible. Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity): W-2 income Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B IRS standard deduction Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Child Tax Credit (CTC) Student loan interest deduction Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions   Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return: Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers) Stock sales (including crypto investments) Income from rental property or property sales Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules        How can I see my TurboTax  fees?  https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k   If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons     (BEFORE you e-file) :   Remove Premium Services Remove MAX Defend & Restore Remove a state Remove PLUS Help & Support Remove Pay With Your Refund     Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site   https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

@DoninGA I'm sorry, I don't think we are on the same page about the issue. I have already completed the steps necessary to populate my Tax Return Amendment documents for both Federal And State. However, at the final step in the process (Under the REVIEW tab when you get to the part that says "Let's get ready to file your taxes", "Great Job you're almost done." "It's time to wrap up your 2024 taxes and file your returns.), I click Continue, expecting that the next page would allow me to electronically file my 2024 tax amendment with the state of California, but the Continue button does not respond. Nothing happens.

TurboTax states in the Home Mortgage Section that it does not provide the service of computing an average mortgage balance, however before the interview in that section ends, there is an option to adjust the amount of interest you can claim.    The IRS gets a copy of the interest statement Form 1098 from your Lender.  TurboTax uses a "worksheet" to calculate the interest.  If you decide to use the average balance and claim an amount of interest slightly different than what TurboTax computed, there is nothing that TurboTax sends to the IRS other than the interest you claim on Schedule A.   This "Average daily Balance" would need to be calculated by you separately.   Although you may still be disappointed that the program does not make the calculation for you, you may feel relieved that you making an adjustment in TurboTax does not cause any more scrutiny from the IRS than if you did your return by hand as a paper return.  The same information (return done by hand or done via software program) is sent to the IRS.

Yes, you can take a deduction in the current year for an overpayment associated with prior years, provided you determine the portion of that overpayment that was taxable in the prior year. You can also opt to take a credit  in the current year based on the excess taxes you paid in prior years on the social security income. You can't deduct a negative net social security benefit in the current year without reporting it as an itemized deduction, so that is why your tax is the same when you enter a negative net benefit or a benefit of $0. If you opt for a credit, you must refigure the tax for the year associated with the repayment to determine the credit to take in the current year. If you opt for an itemized deduction, you just deduct the overpayment amount in the current year. The repayment is called a claim of right.   To report a claim of right repayment credit in TurboTax follow these instructions:   Using the desktop version of TurboTax, bring up the "Forms" mode by clicking on that icon on the menu bar Choose the 1040/1040SR Wks in the list of forms Scroll down the 1040/1040SR Wks until you see Schedule 3, Part II - Other Payments and Refundable Credits Enter the amount of the credit on line (D) Claim of Right, IRC 1341 credit for repayments of prior year income of the Other Credits and Payments Smart Worksheet    You may need to amend your previous year tax return to determine the change in tax or the portion of the repayment that was taxable. You will see an option for this on your home page in TurboTax, under Your tax returns and documents at the bottom of the page. You will not file the amended return, you just need to remove the income that was paid back to determine the tax you paid on it. It will be the difference in tax due or refunded when you remove the income you paid back.   You can download your online TurboTax program to your computer so you don't have to re-enter all of your information. You will see an option for that on your left menu bar while working on your program in TurboTax. Look for the Tax Tools menu option, then Tools, then see the option on the right to  Save your (year) return to your computer.   Income repayment of less than $3,000 can only be deducted as a miscellaneous itemized deduction, which is not allowed for tax years beginning after 2017 through 2025. If the amount is over $3,000, it is entered on line 16 of Schedule A (Itemized Deductions) as an Other Deduction if you want to take the deduction in the current year, as opposed to the credit. You can bring up Schedule A in the desktop version of TurboTax and make the entry directly on the form by using the Open Form menu icon.   @jtricomi    @jtricomi [Edited 1/23/26 at 6:17 AM PST]

Possibly. It depends on how much you earned and if you lived together for the entire 12 months of the year.   If you did not live together for the ENTIRE year, or you earned more than $5,200 then he can not claim you as a qualifying relative.     Since you are not a child, sibling, parent or grandparent, you must live with the person for the entire year in order for them to claim you as a dependent. To claim someone as a Qualifying Relative, they must be: Your child ( including step children, adoptive children and foster children) or a descendent of them Your sibling (including half siblings) or a child of your sibling or a sibling-in-law Your parent or grandparents, including step parents and in laws Any other person that lived with you for the entire tax year Not a qualifying child of another taxpayer Someone that you provided over half of their support for during the tax year Has less than $5,200 in income (not counting social security) NOTE:  If he can claim you, he cannot claim head of household since you are a Non Relative Dependent.  He can only claim you for the  the $500 Non-Refundable Other Dependent Credit.

We cannot tell you if you will receive a refund.  We cannot see any of your information.  We know nothing about your filing status, whether you have any dependents, how much W-2 income you received, how much tax was withheld, etc.etc. etc.   Unemployment benefits are taxable on your federal return and on some state returns.   You must enter all of your W-2 income and your unemployment benefit income (from a 1099G issued by your state) and the software will reconcile whether you are getting a refund or whether you owe tax due.     UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION Unemployment compensation is taxable on your federal return.  You will have to enter a 1099G that is issued by your state. Some states will mail out the 1099G.  Or you might need to go to your state’s unemployment website and use the password, etc. that you have been using to certify for weekly benefits to get your 1099G from the state’s site. Enter your 1099G in Federal>Wages & Income>Unemployment Go through the screens very carefully, making sure  to enter any federal/state tax you had withheld from the unemployment. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/where-do-i-report-a-1099-g-for-unemployment-or-paid-family-leave/00/26530

Your post is not clear.  Why do you want to amend?    Why do you think TT was supposed to contact you at the end of the filing season?  Did you e-file your 2024 return or not?   If you did not e-file it before the deadline, then the only way to file it now is by mail.   You have to print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.  E-filing is permanently closed for 2024.   You do NOT amend a 2024 return that was never filed in the first place.  Amending is done on a special form that you only use if you already filed your return, the IRS fully processed it, and then you discover that you made a mistake to correct.   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
