Today, I got a 4883c letter from the IRS, dated 10/09/25, via USPS, requesting a call back to verify my identity and tax return info. Is it a legitimate letter? It has a "control number"... It is requesting I call an 800 number I wasn't able to find on the IRS website [phone number removed]). Why? I entered an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) I received from the IRS on my 2024 1040 Tax Form when I e-filed... Thanks

I agree that Intuit should support Windows 10 with the new 2025 version, especially since Microsoft is offering extended security patch support for another year for everyone who applies. MANY people, including me, still use Windows 10 on robust systems that have their own protection from malware. Intuit; PLEASE Change your policy and support Windows 10 for at least another year!

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

You were not supposed to enter anything from a 1095B. Did you enter something from that? ONLY a 1095A should be entered IF you have one --- you would only have a 1095A if you had marketplace health insurance from healthcare.gov. If you had some other kind of health insurance-- like from an employer plan -- you were supposed to say NO when it asked if you have a 1095A and then you should have just moved on in the software.

Hello, The 2024 tax year will be my final year filing Form 5471, as I will become a Non-Resident Alien (NRA) for U.S. tax purposes beginning in 2025. While the foreign corporation will continue to operate, I will no longer have a U.S. filing obligation related to it due to my change in tax residency status. In this case, should I check box D on Form 5471 ("Check box if this is a final Form 5471 for the foreign corporation")? Or is that box only intended to be checked if the foreign corporation itself ceases to exist or the U.S. person no longer owns shares, regardless of changes in filing status? I want to ensure the form is completed correctly and that there is no confusion about my future filing obligations. Any clarification you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, I am a Non-Resident Alien for U.S. tax purposes and will be filing Form 1040NR for the 2024 tax year. For mailing purposes, I would prefer to use a reliable U.S. address (a friend’s residence) rather than an international address, in order to receive any IRS correspondence more quickly and reliably. Are there any potential downsides to using a U.S. address in this situation? Could it raise any red flags with the IRS or affect my non-resident status in any way? Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Opus 17, Thanks for your reply, but I think that you misunderstand me. I am trying to report a bug with TurboTax. If this is not that appropriate forum to report the bug in, then please let me know if there is a better way of doing that. I am living abroad, on a US army base overseas with my family. My care provider (daycare center) DOES have a EIN, which I can enter into TurboTax. The problem is that TurboTax requires an address for the care provider, but it will not accept the military address for the daycare center here on the army base overseas. This is a bug with TurboTax, and I see that other people have complained about this same problem on this website in the past. Specifically, my daycare center has an APO AP address (Army Post Office, Armed Forces Pacific). If TurboTax were designed properly, when selecting the state for the daycare center, in addition to the options for the 50 states in the US, AP (Armed Forces Pacific) should be one of the additional options in order to accommodate US military addresses. If you are unfamiliar with this, you should look up what military addresses are. These are US addresses that are recognized by the United States Postal Service for people and organizations living and working on US military bases in foreign countries. However, since TurboTax does not have this functionality, I am unable to select "AP" as the state, and it does not accept the US zip code that I provide either because it is a US zip code associated with an AP address. I could identify my care provider (daycare center) as a foreign care provider, but that is not accurate, and then in that case TurboTax does not allow me to provide the EIN for the care provider. The actual solution should be that TurboTax should allow military addresses to be entered for care providers operating on US military bases in foreign countries, and it should recognize and accept those addresses as valid US addresses, as the US government does. This is a problem that TurboTax should try to fix in order to better serve US military personnel and government contractors that live and work on US military bases in foreign countries. Thank you.

Q. Can my daughter claim both reimbursements?
A. Yes, as far as the IRS is concerned. But, you may want to check with both employers to be sure they don't have a rule against double dipping
As to the tax rules, she could claim both, even if your employer's plan was tax free (only $5250 is allowed to be tax free). But, since your employer's $6,000 tuition reimbursement is taxed through your paycheck, it is not actually treated as tuition reimbursement, for tax filing purposes. It is simply additional taxable income (a taxable benefit), to you, since it will be included in box 1 of your W-2.

First LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/ If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online.
