Use these steps to downgrade your TurboTax Online product to a less costly or free edition: Open your return if you haven't already. In the left menu, select Switch Products.  Select Downgrade. Note: TurboTax Free Edition is for customers who are filing Simple Form 1040 Returns only (no schedules except for Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Student Loan Interest). Roughly 37% of taxpayers qualify. If you have additional forms or attachments, you’ll need to use a different TurboTax product.   You can also clear and start over to switch to a different product. This option erases your information to give you a fresh start in the new product you've chosen. ^ TurboTax FAQ - How do I downgrade to a different TurboTax Online product?   Learn more: What qualifies as a simple tax return for TurboTax Free Edition?

If your Dividend income and your interest income total is over $1,500 then you need to use a Schedule B on your tax return.  The Free online edition does not support Schedule B, so that you will need to upgrade to the Deluxe edition. The Deluxe edition is currently $79.  You also seem to have used a state tax return program which is an additional $59.  For a total of $129

If the box is not checked after attempts to report it as a rollover, don't worry because the IRS is looking for matching amounts, so the important thing is to verify that your entriew were reported properly. If they are, your return is compliant, even without the box checked.   Line 5a should show your Gross Distribution and 5b should show zero (0) for the after-tax portion. If Line 5b is zero, your return is mathematically correct and satisfies the reporting requirements.

Hi BillM, and thanks for your reply.   First of all, I was indeed wrong about the numbers on the form I downloaded from Arizona website. The 2025 Schedule A worksheets from Arizona and Turbotax both agree, $40,000; $20,000 for married filing separate. (I had a lot of files open that day trying to find the problem and I must have been looking at the 2024 AZ Schedule A.  I apologize for that mistake on my part.)   That leaves us with the rejection due to subtraction error, which I can't explain by looking at my Schedule A worksheet. I'm uncomfortable posting my exact figures to a public forum, but here's the gist:   4A is $40,000 5A is an amount less than $40,000 but larger than $10,000 6A is $10,000 7A (5A subtracted from 6A) would then be a negative number. The number filled in on 7A is $0, which was entered on AZ Schedule A, line 7 as zero as well.   That calculation looks right to me, so I don't know what I can change to fix the 'subtraction error'.   I hope this helps; if you need more specific information from my tax forms I would prefer to discuss it privately. Please advise as to what I should do next.   Thanks!       5A
Thanks for confirming. Glad it worked out!

Personally, I would remove the T and Q. Here's why: The education credit is based on those answers. You don't want to claim an education credit on a high school student. It is only allowed 4 times. You want to spend $4k out of pocket to get the maximum refund/credit. If you have already filed and claimed the credit, please check form 8863 to see what credit you have. You may want to consider doing an amended. If the 529 completely covered the tuition, then you would not have claimed the credit. In fact, you would not need to enter the T or the Q and you would be set to claim the credit in future years. Your child probably has scholarships in place for college. Please see another post here to help you plan ahead.

My 1099-B has sale of stock where the financial institution says the term the stock was held is unknown and does not know the basis.  In other words, it only has sale date and proceeds. I entered the basis for this sale in TurboTax, but I did not see a way to provide the date acquired so it could be identified as a long term transaction.  Turbo tax said I needed to mail form 8949 with the detail of date acquired and basis within 3 days of the IRS accepting my return.     How does Turbo Tax treat the transaction to calculate the tax owed if it does not know if the sale was long term or short term sale?

It  depends. You can file your tax return even if Form 8949 is part of the tax return. It will not change your numbers or tax liability in any way. If you would like you can use the information below to send a copy of your file.    If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:  (Don't forget to give us the state)   TurboTax Online: Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.  Then select Tools below Tax Tools. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.   On this screen, select Share my file with Agent. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number. Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information. TurboTax Desktop: If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps: Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'* > Follow the prompts to reach the token number. Enter your email used for TurboTax > Enter your code > Send Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution. Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return. *If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, 'Send Tax File to Agent')   We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.   @gideonesq17
