@DawnC wrote: To deduct Sect 179 expense, your activity must be from commercial property (check your property type) and be a trade or business, using Schedule C. There is a Learn More link that explains it is not allowed when going through the interview. Although there are several restrictions with Section 179 in relation to rental property, it does NOT need to be for a commercial property. If the Learn More link says that, that is REALLY outdated. That changed somewhere around 2017/2018.

Thank you for the answers. So how should I treat all these errors in my Tax Return in 2026? I really dont want to go back to Vanguard again and make the situation even worse. a. Should I leave the whole confusion as it is now and explain to IRS if audited that the excess contribution distribution was a mistake since I never overcontributed to my Roth (according to 5498) so I made the rollover with the same amount (with $0.43 diff) and later I made another distribution? b. Should I request for a new excess contribution removal of the remaining rollover shares amount of each share ie 1.871 - 1.83 = 0.041 VFIAX and 21.35 - 20.833 = 0.517 VTWAX ? I'm really confused here how this needs to be treated with the IRS. My understanding is that: a. the initial distribution of excess contributions is not taxable since in reality I never made an excess contribution and I just took out $1901.81 from my Roth. b. the rollover to my Roth was compeletey wrong because IRS doesnt allow rollover when contribution are excess contributions, and because also Vanguard didnt rollover same amount of shares but same $$ amount (with $0.43 diff). c. This rollover transfer was removed for the reason explained in b but the shares removed are slightly less from the shares transfered with the rollover.

Go to Forms Mode (click on Forms in the upper right hand corner) and look for the 1099-INT and try to add it there.

There is no reason to make it so hard to find for those of us who basically do our own returns. And the "help" is no help.

You need to file a GA resident return and a CA nonresident return. Your resident state (GA) will tax all of your income, but they will also give you credit for the tax you pay to CA on your GA return (removes the impact of double taxation). On your CA nonresident return, you will only report the income and expenses that are CA sourced. When you go through the interview, TurboTax will ask you what income/deductions are CA sourced and which are not CA sourced.
Do I have to file tax returns in more than one state?
Why would I have to file a nonresident state return?

the first question is whether you can claim him as a dependent even if you don't do so. if the answer is yes, then he can't have his own HSA. if the answer is no such as being 24 or over at year end (he fails qualifying child test) and not be a qualifying relative meaning his gross income for 2025 is $5200 or more or he provides over 1/2 his support
if you can't claim him as a dependent then yes he can have his own HSA see this interesting link.

also, note the family limit for 2025 is $8550

since you may have no idea of what your 2025 federal and sate income taxes will be the IRSand usually the staes offer a safe harbor.
have enough withheld to equal or exceed 100% of your 2024 tax which should be known if you've filed. That jumps to 110% for federal if your adjusted gross income for 2024 was $150,000 or more (1/2 that if married filing separately) this is merely to avoid penalties for not prepaying enough of your 2025 taxes. you could still have a substantial amount due at filing time. some taxpayers do not like owing a lot come 4/15. if you are one of them then increase the amount withheld if possible.
withholding has an advantage over estimated tax payments. despite the period actually withheld 1/4 of the total is, by default, deemed paid each installment period whereas estimates only count for the period in which made.

I have a child graduating from college who will no longer be a dependent on my taxes, but he will still be covered on my employer-provided HDHP. I am trying to determine if he can open his own HSA account to cover qualified medical expenses, if I am already contributing the family maximum to my employer HSA.

Unfortunately that did not help. The return is now showing “edit” next to the income instead of “update” as well. But, still a blank screen after I try to add a new 1099IMT?

I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment with my experience using TurboTax for the 2024 tax year. As a long-time customer since 2009 and a TurboTax Advantage Member since 2024, I expected a smooth process in claiming my one free Audit Defense benefit — but this has turned into a stressful, unresolved ordeal. Despite following all steps and reaching out to customer support three separate times, I am still unable to activate my Audit Defense through the desktop version. Each support call lasted a long time and involved various troubleshooting attempts, lengthy holds, and ultimately no solution. I was told the issue was a technical glitch involving TurboTax’s servers, and that it should resolve “by the next business day,” but that never happened — even after repeated attempts on my end. I’ve exhausted every avenue to resolve this myself. Now, I respectfully request that TurboTax contact their Audit Defense partner directly to place my benefit order on my behalf and ensure I receive the protection promised as part of my TurboTax Advantage membership. The inability to access a benefit that was a key reason I upgraded to Advantage membership has made this year’s tax experience extremely frustrating and disappointing. Please resolve this promptly and honor your commitment.
