For those of you still struggling with this problem - I managed to get the online survey form to prompt me to fix 25A manually by selecting "Yes" for installing improvement/replacements of panel boards etc, entering A1B2 for both codes on the next page and a spoof value, pressing next, then going back *two pages* and selecting "No" for installing improvements/replacements. I think it likely flagged the existence of data + "No" as incompatible and allowed me to adjust 25A from the browser manually as a result. Hopefully my two hours of troubleshooting works for you too.

I agree with you that this is confusing on TurboTax. I entered mine as a Hobby, but deciphering the language of the options is not clear-cut. This could be handled better in the options.

If you are filing as Married Filing Separately you are not eligible for the deduction. If you are Single and your AGI is over $150,000 or Married Filing Jointly and your AGI is over $250,000 you are not eligible for the deduction.
If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.
Standard deductions for 2025
Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older
New Bonus Standard Deduction (OBBB): An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older. This is per eligible individual, meaning a married couple both over 65 could get $12,000. Important: This bonus deduction is temporary, lasting from 2025 through 2028. Income limitations: It phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
The amount is calculated on Schedule 1-A, Part V, with that amount flowing to Form 1040 Line 13b
Look at your Form 1040 -
You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

Yes, you will file a part-year state return for Illinois and Nebraska. You will be able to allocate how much income you earned in each state- so you have to determine how much. You can do a percentage based on number of days if you are paid the same amount, or you check your paystubs. Because the withholding was incorrect, you will have a larger refund from Nebraska and owe Illinois.

Print your 2024 federal Form 1040 and use the number on Line 24 "total tax" to enter the value for this question; it's very important to complete this question in full, even if you did not have a tax penalty in the prior year. Instructions to print your prior year tax form:
If you've started your return already
Sign in to your TurboTax account. Make sure you're using the same TurboTax account (same user ID) as in previous years.
There are two ways to get your prior-year returns:
Select Documents from the menu, use the dropdown menu to choose the tax year you want, and select Download tax PDF.
On Tax home, scroll down and select Your tax returns & documents. Select the year you want and select Download/print return (PDF).
If the year you're looking for isn't there, it might be in a different account. Go here to find all of your accounts. One of them should have the return you're looking for.

The attorneys do receive direct payment from the payer (SSA) of the settlement group. The claimants are required to report this income on their tax returns because technically it's their income being used to pay for the services of the attorneys.
You are required to report the amount of the money used to pay the attorney even though it didn't actually come into you hands. It is part of the award you received regardless the payment is for attorney fees.
Treatment of Payments to Attorneys - IRC 6041 and 6045 state that when a payor makes a payment to an attorney for an award of attorney's fees in a settlement awarding a payment that is includable in the plaintiff income, the payor must report the attorney's fees on separate information returns with the attorney and the plaintiff as payees. Therefore, Forms 1099-MISC and Forms W-2, as appropriate, must be filed and furnished with the plaintiff and the attorney as payee when attorney's fees are paid pursuant to a settlement agreement that provides for payments includable in the claimant's income, even though only one check may be issued for the attorney's fees. Click the link above for more information.
Can I deduct legal fees on my taxes? Review the information here to see if you qualify for any deduction of those fees. Typically it's only if it's for business use.
If the law suit settlement was not awarded in relationship to a business activity you had, then it must be reported as other income.

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.
For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/
