It may help to follow a YouTube video on how to install the download from Amazon to your MAC.  One thing that you need to make sure you are doing is downloading the .dmz file and NOT the .exe. The .exe file will NOT install on a MAC.  That is for PC's. There are a few really good videos on YouTube that will help you with installation and you will  be able to follow along step by step.

I had this error when submitting my taxes on 4/12.  It evidently duplicated the RMD amount from one of my retirement accounts and even though I clicked the box that said I had no more RMD's it still calcualated a penalty.   I then went back in and amended the return.  I deleted the 401k they secretly duplicated and re-downloaded it and it did the correct calculation.  I called TT help and they told me it was my problem, not their software.  I love it when a company blames their customers for problems.   I've used TT for years, and will now be looking for an altrnative software product that calculates correctly, doesn't duplicate RMD amounts and doesn't blame their customers for the software bugs.

There is no way to review your return prior to filing TT Premium online.  When I opened the saved PDF of my 2024 return, to review a different section of my return, I discovered TT did not calculate the amount of taxes I owed based on line 15, taxable income.  Line 16 is blank.  I did not over-ride any calculations. Yes, I earned enough that I do owe taxes based on the IRS tax table publication.  How is this even possible?

My spouse passed away very late in Dec 2023. He was sole owner of some investment accounts at the time of his death. As a result, for 2024 tax year, there are capital gains in his name and SSN only, just for the short period before these accounts were transferred to his heirs (no probate required). I filed his final tax return and estate tax return for 2023.....but how do I report his capital gains for 2024 since his final/estate returns were already filed? Should I report them on a Schedule D? If I report them in my name/SSN I have no supporting documentation. I did not receive clear guidance when requesting live assistance today. Thank you.
IRS seems to have no record of my return filed by Turbo Tax back in early February. How can I verify if the form was submitted using the Desktop version?

Hi- Thanks for your response.  I have an iMac M3, previously had an Intel iMac desktop.  I'm not trying to download any Windows product.  I had TurboTax Premier 2023 Tax Year installed on the Intel, approved for 1 device ... that one.  Now I have all TurboTax files on the M3 but cannot access them because the activation key was used on the iMac Intel.  I have reached out several times to the company I purchased TT Premier 2023 asking for a new activation key but have had no response.  When I log into my Intuit account and can download TT Premier 2023, it gives me the same activation code which does not work for the new M3 desktop.  Actually, I have several years of TT dating back to 2014 that cannot be accessed for the same reason ... no activation code.   I need 2023 ... what can I do to get it back?

From the 2022 Federal Form 1040 Information Smart Worksheet displayed by View/Forms, it appears that Turbotax has erroneously copied the 2023 state and local real estate taxes (1040 Schedule A line 5b) into this worksheet. This may have happened because the line was blank on the 2022 form (because I had no real estate taxes to deduct in 2022). Now I need to figure out how to remove this bogus entry from the smart worksheet.

If you live together and are each filing as married filing separately, then just don't list them.  It avoids confusion.   If you are divorced or separated and live apart and share custody, then read the rest of the answer.   If the children live in your home more than half the year, you should say yes and then run the detailed interview for each child.  Even if you are allowing the other parent to claim the dependent for the child tax credit, there are some tax benefits that always stay with the parent who has custody more than half the year, that can't be waived, transferred or shared.  This includes head of household status, EITC,  and the dependent care credit.     If you are the parent who had custody more than half the year, enter the children as dependents, answer the questions, and say "yes" that you are allowing the other parent to claim them as dependents.  The children will be listed on your tax return for certain benefits, but not the child tax credit.  You must also give the other parent a signed form 8332 dependent release, allowing the other parent to claim the children even though they don't live with her. https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-8332   If the children live with you and you just leave them off, and allow your ex to claim them as if they lived with her all year, she will be able to claim HOH and other tax benefits, which is tax fraud, and you may lose out on those benefits or pay higher taxes as single instead of head of household.   On the other hand, if the children do not live with you more than half the year, you can never claim them unless you have a waiver signed by the other parent.  You can try answering that you support someone, but if you answer the questions honestly, the program will tell you they are not your dependents.

I had forgotten that both Federal and State Itemized Deductions are reduced if you exceed an AGI threshold.  The software used to have a call out when your deductions were reduced, but not now.   Resolved with the help of Turbotax Social Media Customer Support on X (Twitter).  Thanks to Dylan and Dennis S.  The many related responses on this forum that repeat that the program picks for you are, at best, unhelpful.

Yes, my grandfather was the sole owner. My grandmother passed in 2014. Prior to that they were both on the property. He became sole owner upon her passing, I'm going to assume, because it was only him and me on the QC.   I did not pay anything to my grandfather, and it's notated in the quitclaim that, "For and in consideration of love and affection and other good and valuable consideration..."   I do not know if he paid gift tax. Where would I find that out?    He purchased the property with my grandmother in 1988 for $20,000.   I have never lived in the home.   I hope this helps. Please let me know how else I can better explain the situation.
@atlaswu0515  Did you ever figure this out? Also still stuck on this screen.

The IRS issued three stimulus payments (two in 2020 and one in 2021). It's too late to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit for 2020 and 2021. The IRS began issuing payments to eligible people who didn't claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns, so you don't need to do anything to get these payments.   Review the IRS website Recovery Rebate Credit for more information.
