Correction: Thanks. 1. "Schedule B in the interest section, below the subtotal for line 1" reads "Excludable interest on series EE and I U.S. savings bonds issued after 1989". Attach Form 8815" My question pertains to the accrued interest paid on brokered CDs (NOT series EE and I US Savings Bonds). There is no form 8815. Brokerage Tax Reporting Statement statement  reports a line item "Accrued Interest Paid on Purchases". 2. I was referring to the statement " So I'm assuming I choose the "accrued interest" reason and leave it at that?  The end result to my refund is the same either way - it subtracts that amount of interest. " in the original (first) message above. So, where do I enter it on Schedule B? Thanks for your help.

I am dealing with this! I received an IRS notice CP11 stating that the taxable Social Security benefits were changed because they were calculated incorrectly. I went from a rare refund in a year when the standard deduction went UP, to more than $2500 owed. This has caused concern for future returns and questioning the liability of Turbotax in this instance. I spoke with a Turbotax technician who states that they calculate this similarly every year but it seems as though the software dropped the ball! This just sucks! Are we supposed to review how the software is done now?????

Thanks much, CatinaT1!   I suspect that the marketing/promotion team at Intuit/TurboTax doesn't have access to my personal TurboTax app details (which is probably for the best), so they send me random promotions regardless of my actual Tax Return status.   Too bad I have to open each email to decide whether it's about my actual personal tax returns, or whether they are simply marketing some additional TurboTax feature, even though it's still APRIL. 😒    For "peace of mind", I even went directly to the IRS site to lookup the status of my federal return, just to be safe. 👍

I suppose a third way would be to change my cost basis that I paid for the CD on the 1099B, since it looks like that is listed as "basis not provided to the IRS" on my 1099B anyways." in the original (first) message above.  Thanks for your help.

Hi everyone, My employer didn't withhold FICA taxes from January through March of 2023 due to me not realizing my residency status in the US changed from nonresident to resident alien. Starting in April of 2023, my employer did withhold the appropriate amount for the FICA tax. The issue is that I'm not sure that I paid these taxes back when I filed my 2023 tax return. If I did, where to check that in my tax return for 2023? If not, which is likely what happened, how do I pay this back? If anyone has any advice and wouldn't mind sharing, I would really appreciate it. (I'm also not sure if my employer needs to do anything regarding this on their part?)

I'm confused about "Property Tax portion" in other expenses for our vehicle.  In the "Learn More" section it is very clear about the association with "license or registration fee", but it isn't in our state.  Then there is another line below that stating:  "Enter the total of your property tax and TurboTax will figure out how it should be divided between any business and personal use."     Our vehicle is included on our property tax, but apparently I didn't enter anything here before because of the registration connection.  Please advise.  Thank you.

Sorry you can't amend to  MFS Married Filing Separately from Joint after the due date, April 15, 2025.  You can amend to add his info and income to your Joint return.  You may find Joint is better than MFS.   How to switch from Joint to Married filing separate https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/small-business-processes/switch-filing-jointly-filing-separately/L3UGzwHa1_US_en_US?uid=lskmcvqs   Here's some things to know about filing MFS Many people think they come out better when filing Married Filing Separate but they are probably doing it wrong. If one person itemizes deductions then the other one must itemize too, even if it's less than the standard deduction, even if it is ZERO!   And there are several credits you can't take when filing separately, like the EITC Earned Income Tax Credit Child Care Credit Educational Deductions and Credits And contributions to IRA and ROTH IRA are limited when you file MFS.   Also if you file Married Filing Separately up to 85`% of your Social Security becomes taxable right away even with zero other income.   See ……. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/married/help/is-it-better-for-a-married-couple-to-file-jointly-or-separately/00/25590

You should click on Skip Import if the import screen pops up.    You can click on Start or Update next to the Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other category.    Answer YES when asked if you have investment sales, then Skip Import.     You should land of the Investment Type page where you choose the type of investment.   Choose the type, scroll down and click Continue.     If you already have investments, click on Add investments to be taken back to the import page, that you can skip.   You can click on Review next to any transaction to edit that transaction.     The amended return should start out at $0 and only reflects the changes from your originally filed tax return.
Are you amending because you didn't receive your refund or to change something on your original return?

Thanks for this.   It looks like the personal use days number hadn't registered and TT was only registering the days rented. I reentered it and the problems seems to be solved.
