I have not been able to go over potential deductions fully and I believe I can reduce my taxes given time so I do not want to pay when I file 4868.

Do you have enough income?
Is some of you income Self-Employment? If yes, be sure to subtract part of your self-employment tax from that income.

IRS Individual Online Account
Taxpayers with a Social Security number or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number can create or access their IRS Individual Online Account to get information they need to file their return.
With an IRS Individual Online Account, people can:
View balance owed, payment history and schedule payments.
Cancel scheduled payments.
Get transcripts.
View or create payment plans.
See digital copies of some IRS notices.
View key data from their most recently filed tax return, including adjusted gross income.
Validate bank accounts and save multiple accounts, eliminating the need to re-enter bank account information every time they make a payment.
View, approve and electronically sign power of attorney and tax information authorizations from their tax professional.

I submitted an extension request on Saturday 4/12 and still have not received a confirmation email. Is there any further steps beyond waiting I can take to check somehow?

is this due to adjustments for wash sales, AMD etc? it depends how many sales you have. if it's not many you are better off entering those items as a 1099 with "one by one" and provide the details which will go on Form 8949 and Sched D Line 1b (or wherever it belongs). You can split up the 1099 and enter anything that doesn't have an adjustment as a separate 1099B in TT using "sales summary" input but without any adjustment (No Form 8949, goes on Sched D Line 1a). This avoids mailing the 1099B details to the IRS. If you have a lot of these items you can enter as a sales summary with adjustments and mail the details to the IRS. When you make adjustment to a sales summary it will reflect on Form 8949 without the details and a description "see attached statement" and you will need to mail Form 8453 with the details usually in the form of the 1099B. Generally TT encourages the adjustment of sales summaries and mailing of Form 8453 which can be avoided in a lot of cases.

I have 3 children, 2 are 17yo HS students, the third is a college student and 21yo. The AI is stating that although they all three qualify as other dependents, the credit was limited to $86 because that is the amount of my tax liability. However, my taxes owed are $2568.

Getting caught up is a good idea. You will not be able to use TurboTax for all of those years. TurboTax has software going back to tax year 2021. And....do you have all of the W-2's, 1099's, etc. for all of those years? You should seek a local tax professional to help you.
Any refunds from tax years earlier than 2021 have already been forfeited, but if you owe tax due, your late penalties and interest have been adding up for all of this time. A tax professional might be able to help you negotiate with the IRS if you owe a lot.
Midnight tonight is the last possible time to postmark a 2021 tax return to get the $1400 3rd stimulus check if you did not receive it for 2021. I will link you the forms to use if you want to try that one.
Each tax year has to be filed separately using the forms for the specific tax year. They cannot be combined in any way--do not even put them in the same envelope when you mail them. Software for past years is available back to 2021. Any earlier years can only be prepared on paper forms by hand--and those refunds have been forfeited now.
The current online program can only be used for a 2024 return--no other year. And if you did not file a timely 2023 return you will have trouble e-filing 2024. When it asks for your 2023 AGI try using zero. If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail 2024.
If you want to tackle any of this as a "do-it-yourself" project:
You cannot change the tax year. The current online program is for 2024 only. Only a 2024 return can be prepared online and only a 2024 return can be e-filed.
Online preparation and e-filing for 2021, 2022, and 2023 is permanently closed.
Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.
To file a return for a prior tax year
If you need to prepare a return for 2021, 2022, or 2023 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.
Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Look at your online account with the IRS to see if they sent you $1400 in 2021.
https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
If you could be claimed as someone else's dependent in 2021, you are not eligible for the payment.
If you were eligible and do not receive a payment soon from the IRS, the other way to get the payment is to amend your 2021 return to use the recovery rebate credit before April 15, 2025. If you did not file a 2021 return at all, then prepare one and mail it in.

I made the max $8000 contribution to Roth in 2024, but the form is telling me I should change it to $7500 and won't let me e-file. I'm over 50 and qualifies to contribution $8K.

I have read that you go to the left and chose switch products and chose downgrade. The only option is upgrade. I have filled out all my forms myself, have not used the live help chat button at the bottom right to avoid paying more, as I had previously read you can change it later. However don't see where to do that. TT, Please advise how to change to premium only. I never used the live option chat and therefore definitely do not want to pay for it. Thank you!
