Select "lawsuit settlement" as the type of income.
In Desktop, the wording is somewhat different but it has the choices "lawsuit settlement" or "money not earned as an employee or self-employed".
See this IRS article for more information. You might check with your legal representative to be sure that the emotional distress damages are the taxable type (punitive damages) and not personal injury damages, which would be nontaxable.
Under current law, you can exclude from income on the Federal return the amount of any damages (other than punitive) received (whether by suit or agreement and whether as lump sums or as periodic payments) on account of personal physical injuries or physical sickness.

Can you enter it manually? I understand it should work and doesn't, but it might be quicker to enter manually.

Most of the same information that is on the W-2 can also be found on the Wage & Income transcript available from the IRS at irs.gov under "My Account" or "Get Your Tax Record". The IRS report, however, will not have any information about state tax withheld or state tax adjustments, if you live in a state with an income tax. Not all 2024 data has posted to these reports, so you may need to file an extension until it does or until his employer's payroll department can help.

Q. Can I put payments made to college in January 2025 on 2024 return?
A. Technically, No.
From Pub 970 (page 60: To determine if total distributions for the year are more or less than the amount of qualified education expenses, you must compare the total of all QTP distributions for the tax year to the adjusted qualified education expenses.
529 plan distributions must be made during the same tax year that the qualified expenses are incurred. This is not an official IRS rule, but it is implied by published IRS guidance. Tax professionals and other experts agree that 529 plan distributions should match up with qualified expenses.

Double check that the name and Social Security number you entered in TurboTax match what's on your Social Security card. If so, you can't fix the reject. You have to file your tax return by mail.
