There is a bug in Turbo Tax - I rent out ag land 365 days a year. When asked by Turbo Tax "Was farm land rented every single day in 2024, I answered "Yes" and "Yes, it always was."   However, when I reached Federal Review, Turbo Tax app has auto-populated "Days of personal use" with 365. Since "Days rented at fair rental value" and "Days of personal use" MUST equal 365, it does not allow my return to pass federal review. Note: there is no way to update the "Days of personal use" with a "0" on the review.    Please correct one of two ways: 1. Do not auto-populate "Days of personal use" with 365 when the user has entered "Yes" to "every single day in 2024" 2. Or, give the user the ability to change the "Days of personal use" to "0" on he review   Fyi, I also tried answering "No, sometimes it wasn't" under the 'Yes" response and, again, with the correct days added, it does not allow my return to pass federal review.     Please correct this asap so I can file a correct return.

Unfortunately, there is not a list of shortcut keys available.  Since TurboTax is a do it yourself software, the program relies on customers reading through each screen, answering questions as needed for any given topic, or marking a box yes or no. These answers would then possibly generate another screen if needed.  This is done to ensure your tax return is complete and covers any other possible credits or deductions you could be entitled to based upon your answers.

In some cases, TurboTax will make the calculations for you and allocate a portion of shared expenses to the rental property and to the homeowner deductions. In other situations, you must make the calculations yourself. This option depends on how the Property Profile was set up.   Return to your rental property and Edit (pencil icon) the rental property info. On the page "Let us calculate your expense deduction for you" you can choose to either allow TurboTax to make the calculations for you or to enter the split expenses yourself. This option appears only if you had zero Personal Use days.   If you choose to let TurboTax calculate the allocation, shared expenses will be pro-rated based on the number of rental days. Expenses that are specific to the rented portion of your home should be entered on the page titled "Any Miscellaneous Expenses?". Entries made on this page will not be allocated.

I originally entered the full name of my state, & was told that I' d entered too many characters. However, after changing my response to the standard 2 letter abbreviation of my states name, I'm still receiving the same message. That two characters is too many.
I ended up starting over and imported the Wealthfront taxes first.

Q.  As I understand it, you can take the tax-free scholarships and count as income, so that you receive a higher AOC amount, is that correct? A. Yes, as long as the scholarship is not "restricted" (it must be used for/allocated to tuition).    Q,  Does that apply if you get Chapter 33/GI Bill payments also? Can those be counted as income? A. No    Q. We are not going to claim her this year so she can get the AOC credit? A. You're essentially not allowed to do that.  If she CAN be your dependent, she cannot claim the refundable portion of the AOC, even if you don't actually claim her. While technically there is a provision that allows your student-dependent to claim a federal tuition credit, from a practical matter it seldom works out.  A full time student, under age 24, is only eligible for the refundable portion (up to $1000) of the American Opportunity Credit (AOC) if he/she supports himself by working. She cannot be supporting herself on student loans & grants and 529 plans and parental support.  It is usually best if the parent claims that credit.   If the student actually has a tax liability, there is a provision to allow him to claim a non-refundable tuition credit. But then the parent must forgo claiming the student as a dependent, and the $500 other dependent credit.  The student must still indicate that he can be claimed as a dependent, on his return. This is worth up to $2500 (AOTC shifts to all non refundable)

You should get a 2025 Form 1099-R in 2026 with codes P and J. This 1099-R will have to be included on your 2024 tax return and you have two options:   You can wait until you receive the 2025 Form 1099-R in 2026 and amend your 2024 return or You can report it now in your 2024 return and ignore the 1099-R when it comes unless there is Box 4 Federal Tax withholding and/or Box 14 State withholding. Then you must enter the 2025 Form 1099-R into the 2025 tax return since the withholdings are reported in the year that the tax was withheld. The 2025 code P will not add anything to your income in the 2025 tax return but the withholdings will be applied to 2025.   To enter a 2025 Form 1099-R in your 2024 return please follow the steps below:   Login to your TurboTax Account  Click on the "Search" on the top right and type “1099-R”  Click on “Jump to 1099-R” Answer "Yes" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2024?" Select "I'll type it in myself" Box 1 enter total distribution (contribution plus earning) Box 2a enter the earnings Box 7 enter J and P Click "Continue" On "Is the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box on this 1099-R checked?" screen answer "No, the box is blank"? On the "Which year on Form 1099-R" screen say that this is a 2025 Form 1099-R. Click "Continue" after all 1099-R are entered and answer all the questions. Continue until "Did you use your IRA to pay for any of these expenses?" screen and enter the amount of earnings under "Corrective distributions made before the due date of the return".   Please be aware, code P will say in the drop-down menu "Return of contribution taxable in 2023" but you can ignore that since the follow-up question will tell TurboTax that it will be taxable in 2024.
