If your self-employment income was even $400 you are required to file a tax return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.  You can skip W-2's and enter your self-employment income and your SSA1099. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/self-employment-taxes/        Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.   If you have self-employment income for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare,  you will need to use online Premium software or any version of the desktop software download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.   Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site   https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/   Or—if you live in certain states you may be eligible to use the new IRS Direct File     In Filing Season 2025, Direct File will be available in Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.    https://directfile.irs.gov/   https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy2629

Hello,    I have a somewhat interesting situation and I am struggling to find any insight to this.    When determining the maximum 401k contribution for a partnership LLC you must decrease Box 14a (self-employment earnings) by section 179 deduction (along with SE deduction, etc.). This makes sense. My question is regarding recapture. If earnings are reduced by Section 179 are earnings increased by Section 179 recapture (Box 20)?    Situation right now is Section 179 deduction is greater than Self employment income for the year which makes 401k salary deferral $0. I figured that Section 179 recapture would offset the deduction for this calculation but it doesn’t appear that way. Not a huge deal to change the Section 179 to bonus depreciation but thought I would ask about this considering I haven’t seen any comments on this specific situation.

There has not been income averaging for years except for farmers and fishermen,    2024 Instructions for Schedule J (2024) | Internal Revenue Service Use Schedule J (Form 1040) to elect to figure your 2024 income tax by averaging, over the previous 3 years (base years), all or part of your 2024 taxable income from your trade or business of farming or fishing. This election may give you a lower tax if your 2024 income from farming or fishing is high and your taxable income for 1 or more of the 3 prior years was low.    In order to qualify for this election, you aren't required to have been in the business of farming or fishing during any of the base years.    You may elect to average farming or fishing income even if your filing status wasn't the same in the election year and the base years.   This election doesn't apply when figuring your alternative minimum tax on Form 6251. Also, you don't have to refigure, because of this election, the tax liability of any minor child who was required to use your tax rates in the prior years.   About Schedule J (Form 1040), Income Averaging for Farmers and Fishermen | Internal Revenue Service

Yes, there is no earned income to claim the Roth contribution thus it is disallowed. You may withdraw this this by April 15 or leave in your account, pay the 6% penalty and wait until next year. If a Roth IRA contribution is allowed next year (or any future year), excess contributions can be applied up to the contribution limit for that year and no longer subject to the penalty.
I have Turbotax Deluxe and am not finding it there.  It appears that Turbotax Home and Business Desktop might be required?   Thank you.
It depends, AL allows credit for tax paid to other states. If you paid 4% or more in sales tax to another state, then you would not owe anything.  See AL DOR FAQs
Can I move Roth funds ($10K converted from Traditional IRA in Dec 2024) back to the IRA?
Income averaging was removed from the tax code in 1987 except for certain farmers and fishermen.
