If you have capital gain distributions reported in box 2.a of your 1099-DIV, that amount will flow to Schedule D line 13, which is the long term capital gains section. Is TurboTax doing something different with your mutual fund capital gain distributions? If so, please explain what is happening.

Yes. It looks very broad and would qualify on surface level. NY College tuition credit states:
Who is eligible?
You are entitled to this credit or deduction if:
you were a full-year New York State resident;
you, your spouse, or dependent (for whom you have taken an exemption) were an undergraduate student who was enrolled at or attended an institution of higher education and paid qualified college tuition expenses; and
the student is not claimed as a dependent on another person's tax return.
Qualified college tuition expenses
Qualified college tuition expenses include only tuition paid for the undergraduate enrollment or attendance of the student at an institution of higher education. This includes expenses paid from a qualified state tuition program (like New York's 529 College Savings Program).
Qualified college tuition expenses do not include:
tuition paid through scholarships or other financial aid that need not be repaid;
amounts paid for room and board, and other similar personal or living expenses;
amounts paid for books, supplies, equipment, and nonacademic activities, even if required by the school; or
expenses reimbursed to you by your employer.

@ willallen1 wrote: I used the desktop version in 2023 and I need the pin I used to file 2024. Desktop version also. It's not required to use last year's 5-digit PIN. However, since you used desktop software both years, it may already be prepopulated from 2023. If you wish, you will have the opportunity to create a new one when you electronically sign the return. For verification purposes when efiling it will ask you for your 2023 AGI (that, too, may have already transferred in.) But if you want the 5-digit PIN from last yeart, you "might" be able to see it this way: If you used desktop software in 2023 and transferred in the *.tax2023 data file into your desktop 2024 return, it should already be in your 2024 return. Go into Forms Mode. The 5-digit PIN used last year may be on the 2024 Federal Information Worksheet. It's way down in Part VII of that worksheet. Or you can look on last year's Federal Information Worksheet to see if it's there if you saved a PDF with all the 2023 forms, or if you have the 2023 software installed. Or did you already efile and got a rejection? If so, the rejection was most likely for 2023 AGI, not PIN.

I have the same situation. I completed my taxes 2 months ago but waited to efile since I owed. Now that I completed them, I was surprised to see that I have to mail them because of some tax situation (which wasnt specified what that was). Ive never had this happen before and I have the simplest taxes. The only thing that I did differently this year was purchase the cheaper option. So, I guess that's what happens when you try to only pay for what you need. I'll be using another service next year.

no worries - so it depends how you input the 3 wash sales - if they were put in as sales summary also and the Form 8949 doesn't have the details (description, dates etc), then I don't think that's sufficient as that went electronically already, and you should send the 1099B for those items instead. (and if the Form 8949 does have these details... then I'm not sure what's triggering the need for Form 8453... maybe some other issue).
